F*cking stealers. The SB is pretty much the only game I watch, and this is the first time I was wrong on predicting who would win. (yes I chose the bucaneers a few years ago.)

A good article, yes, Kilga, but calling a conspiracy theory out on that game? No. Just No.

The vast amount of money spent in the United States is over various forms of entertainment. Last I checked, the two largest industries in the U.S. were Porno and Video Games (with Movies not too far behind, IIRC). Football, or any other sport, is a form of entertainment. Watching people displaying physical skills to win an event has been one of the greatest forms of entertainment since the BEGINNING OF HUMAN EXISTANCE. I could argue that spending money on DDR is a waste of time. It's not like you get anything out of it other than a score on the screen, and the slight amount of physical excersize that's required. Why is your form of entertainment greater than my form of entertainment? The sense of comeraderie that forms between people cheering for the same team is pretty significant, I say. That's worth something in and of itself.

Guys, Rai's right. Let's have a world without entertainment. All of our money could go to cancer research and it wouldn't be cured any faster.

hummm entertainment makes a lot of gazillions of dollars and i don't think it wouldn't hurt if the could cooperate in investing some of those gazillions dollars in career research. It would benefit many stuff we are researching now good point guido i must say.

As much as I loath Bill Cowher, The Steelers played a top notch game last night. Kudos to them. Yeah, the refs were bias, but I think that the Steelers still would have come out on top, and Roethlisberger is awesome. Still, fuck them for beating my Broncos ps the gadget play was pretty cool i was all o.o EDIT: wtf Quote:

I never even implied that we shouldn't have entertainment. I only mean that the fact that people who play sports are payed more money than people who do something useful towards the advancement of society is ludicrous and depressing.
You guys are enormously weakminded idiots. Arguing with you guys is like arguing with inbred southern-Baptists. ps to banditcom - if you think people making jokes about my avatar in an attempt to insult me despite my having personally put that avatar there in the first place is "owning" me, then half of FFR has owned me. pps to laharl - yes, sports have been entertainment pretty much since the dawn of civilization. I don't have a problem with that, I have a problem with the rediculous hype of it all and all the money spent on these douche bags tossing around an aerodynamic sack of leather. Also, personally playing DDR is different than watching football. I have no problem with playing football, I have a problem with the major league, and with athletes being at the top of the social ladder despite being worthless asshats, and with people sitting on their asses all day drinking beer and watching ******s they'll probably never meet playing the sport and memorizing tons of stats instead of doing something interesting and/or actually playing the sport themselves. EDIT: ppps to hans - 20 posts a day is nothing when it's spread out over the entirety of the time I'm at home, especially considering there hasn't been an extended period of time since I joined in which I was not posting regularly. Get the fuck over my postcount. |

If it was as fun to watch surgeries as it is to watch people play football, then doctors would make more than sports stars. People want to get something for their money. If we give twenty bucks to research, we're not going to see that money go towards anything we'll be able to grasp immediately. If we give twenty bucks to the cashier at Wal-Mart as we buy a new movie that comes out, we'll have something for that twenty bucks that's tangible. If we give that twenty bucks to a guy to get a ticket to a game, we just bought the privelage to a seat at the stadium to watch said game, which is something tangible. I also don't get how the hype over a game is any different from the hype over a new video game that hits the market. Hype generates money, which stimulates the economy. Everyone wins. Your arguement here is totally and utterly flawed, Rai. If you took a step down from your high perch, you'd realize that, too.

And of course most people wouldn't want to watch surgeries, that is not at all the point. Anyone who bases their ideas of the importance of matters on which is more happy-happy-fun doesn't deserve modern medicine. Quote:

But the sheer orgastic pleasure of your home team winning the Superbowl is worth something to me. <_<
Like when the Pats and the Sox won. I was like, "You can't soil yourself this time. You can't." ... Yeah, so this one wasn't nearly as exciting because I didn't care who won. Randle El to Ward trick play? Meh. Every interception? Meh. |

Rai, I hate to disagree, but I live for fun. I personally don't care at all about football, but a lot of people don't care at all about gaming. So I can dig it.

I'm not talking about not living for fun. I live for fun.
I don't live for half my money going to people playing football. |

You don't even want to know about European soccer players. Those guys are even richer than athletes here.
Obscenely rich, thanks to no salary cap. There's even political meddlers in the sport. |

GG, locomotion, on failing to recognize the dripping sarcasm in my post.
Okay, Rai, I know you never suggested having a world without entertainment. I stretched to grasp something you very weakly suggested and ran with it. From what I can tell, you don't have a problem with entertainment, you have a problem with freedom. People willingly give these people millions of dollars because that's what they want. They obviously don't want to further cures for cancer; they want to watch a football game. You apparently don't. Well, fine. You do what you want and everyone else will do what they want. This is America. Please just shut up and leave if you don't like how we do things. I bet you like socialized medicine, too (Makes me so fucking sick). And regarding your postcount, it's not that you have twenty posts per day, it's that eighteen of them come from the garbage bin, where there is nothing to make more than around two posts about. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |
