Default One or Two?

I don't know if this is the place to put this... but it seems to be. Forgive me if it's not.

Basically, after playing FFR for a while (5 months or so) I've reached a dilemma. I started off playing one-handed, and that's what I've gotten used to, but as I've been playing harder and harder songs, I've had a lot of trouble hitting the keys fast enough. I've been attempting to play two-handed, but my mind can't handle playing two-handed as well as registering all the arrows -- basically, to play two-handed I'd have to go back a bit and practice more. Why am I saying this? I want to know what you guys think -- should I just keep playing one handed or should I switch to two hands, even though it'll set me back a bit?

Once more I apologize if this has already been addressed somewhere obvious or if this isn't the place for it.

Two is the best choice. I'll try to find a link for you...

Meh, couldn't find a link but the proven best way to play is called spread.

Use the in-game keymapper to change from the arrow keys to something like a s k l, meaning left -> a, down -> s, up -> k, right -> l. Or whatever is comfortable for you.

Personally, I only map down and left and keep my right hand on the arrow keys.

Switch your keys to left = a, down = s, up = k, right = L.

left middle on a, left index on s, right index on k, right middle on L.

It's pretty much the easiest spread set up to play if your coming from 1 hand.

After you become familiar with spread you'll find you can be much faster, and much more accurate then with one hand.

You'll experience a little bit of a setback, but with only a few weeks effort you'll be almost as good as you were with one hand, and you'll soon bypass even that. The benefits are definitely worth the effort put in.

Two hands. Though initially you may have coordination problems, you will find that your stamina and strength will increase significantly.

I had this dilemma too! I was a devoted one-hander for a couple years. About 3 months ago I realized that I had reached a plateau with one hand -- I wasn't getting any better, even with practice. So, I decided to switch to spread. It took me maybe a week to get the hang of it, and then my scores started improving like mad. I'm so much better now than I would be if I had stuck with one hand. Trust me, it's a good move to make the switch. =]

Thanks everyone! I had a creeping suspicion that I should go with two hands =P But thanks for all your suggestions and such. I have actually been playing spread a bit, but not enough to get any good with it. I'll definitely switch now -- thanks everyone!

Definately. I've played in the two-handed spread style for quite a while now. Every now and then, I do a bit of spread-index, which is just like playing index, but in the spread style. I don't let my hands go any farther than the two keys they use when I'm playing, though.

I actually play with one hand only and I have been since i ever started playing since about a month and a half ago. I try doing two hands for certain songs such as Flight of the Bumblebee. I cannot switch to two hands so easily. I have gotten pretty good with one hand actually, and I've played Legendary Etude with one hand (you can view what i did with one hand here) http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...play/23558022/

Should I switch to two hands, or am i good enough with one hand based on how i did on the song?
