Re: Paranoid Parents & the Internet
lol that's awesome. if i hid things they'd go in my html coding folder with my photoshop stuff and such...cuz no one else here is interested in that stuff...and anyways i could just make it invisible as well
one of my friends had a separate hidden hard drive for his special stuff

After figuring out that I often looked at adult content, my dad threatened me by saying that he could monitor the router 24/7.
I think he was bluffing. = 3 |

Re: Paranoid Parents & the Internet
It's usually best to keep parents who don't use computers or know much about it on a need to know basis. The media has pretty much blown up everything making adults scared of this new age technology.
I never have a problem with porn or anything. I'm a man, my hentai folder is in my documents and my porn is in a folder on my desktop called Bittorrentdownloads. I guess my mum respects my privacy and everything. But then again this is my computer and nobody ever goes on it anyway. The whole rated M and such are guidelines and are really up to the parents to decide if their child is mature enough to purchase it. Purely the parents fault if something happens and they make a misjudgment, it's not exactly hard to flip over to the back of something and read a paragraph to see if it's suitable for young sharp object obsessed Jimmy. If your parents happen to find out about something and they don't understand it it's usually best to explain it with some hard facts. We are more likely to get raped attacked molested etc just walking outside normally then someone finding out the town you live in. What stops any person kidnapping you in cities etc. It's not like shiz is going to make any diffrence. |

Re: Paranoid Parents & the Internet
When I lived with my parents, I kept anything unsuitable in a folder somewhere in the windows directory. IMO that's the best place to keep it. There's no possibility of anyone going in there for any reason (unless you have a weird nerd in the family). It's great to find one of those folders that has a bunch of random sequences of letters or numbers.... make one of those and remember which one it is. Nobody's going to touch that.
Then later I kept my stuff in a hidden directory labeled with my name, on the desktop. Nobody knew how to un-hide, so it was all good. Now I don't care. I think there is some hentai on my desktop. Meh. I live with friends and visit my parents occasionally. My mom is a real snoop, but it doesn't matter, because I don't live there anymore! What was really frustrating was having to watch out what you bookmarked. I don't have to worry about that anymore. It's great to leave home.

Re: Paranoid Parents & the Internet
My mom knows I play a lot of FFR. That being said she knows that when music is blaring and my fingers are moving up and down on the same keys i'm playing FFR.
Still she comes and checks to see what i'm doing on the computer. Then she squints to see the taskbar to check if anything explicit is on there. Annoying as hell... when i'm trying to do homework and she slams open my door, looks at the computer, looks at the TV, clicks the, "previous channel," button on the TV remote then leaves. |

Re: Paranoid Parents & the Internet
Once you think about it, it somewhat makes sense. I mean, having sex with someone (particularly to give birth) is better than beating their face in (which doesn't relate to the birth of a child at all).

Re: Paranoid Parents & the Internet
My mom doesn't mind what I do on the internet as long as it's not illegal, excluding downloading music.
But when I joke about porn, she gives me a look. OMG PORN IS MORE HARMFUL TO THE BODY THAN DRUGS.
