Switch out Funk Genre?
So, I'm pretty sure everyone has noticed that the Funk Genre doesn't even have a page's worth of songs. I myself feel that Funk songs should be moved to the Dance and Dance 2 Genres, and have the Funk Genre itself be replaced by a category specifically for Drum 'n' Bass, IDM, etc.
Discuss.

Re: Switch out Funk Genre?
I definitely support this idea about removing the funk genre but I'm not sure about replacing it with IDM/breakbeats though since putting those types of songs in Misc seems good enough but then again, Dance 1, Dance 2 AND Misc all have a crapload of songs that could be put into it's own genre so maybe it should be done.
+1 support

Re: Switch out Funk Genre?
Stop calling things breakbeat, there's little to no actual breakbeat on ffr currently...

Re: Switch out Funk Genre?
There should be genres like Trance/House/(can't think of more), yeah, but after all, not everybody would care much, because there's that little "s" button at the top left corner and that's where the "advanced" people find their songs.
For those who want to search songs by going with the Genre (newbies I guess), this idea is quite nice. Other thing is, I think Admins will think it's not necessary, because ideas like this are one of those delicacies which are not really needed that bad. Re: Switch out Funk Genre?
Yeah we're aware of this since ages ago, but not planning to change genres anytime soon.
"Hip-Hop" has a similar issue too, and "Arcade" isn't even a music genre. So actually, all jazzy/funky songs are put in funk now, instead of Dance/Misc. |

-1 support.
I actually believe that the funk genre, instead of being removed, needs to be filled with songs from the Misc category. Some of these jazzy songs really have their place in Funk (OSTER project jazz, Ska, Two-step...). Besides, Misc is 13 pages long, it could use a little trim. |

Anyway, I guess another option would be to move a large amount of the Misc. songs into Funk. Arcade, well, like Jimerax said, isn't a music genre. Maybe replace the songs put into Funk from Misc. with songs from Arcade. Hip-Hop doesn't exaclty have a lot either, but it's not that far behind the Token genre. EDIT: I'm okay with people not supporting replacing the Funk Genre with a Dnb and IDM-like genre, I just whether people would agree if Funk should remain a Genre.

I think "funk" should be replaced with "metal"

Re: Switch out Funk Genre?
That would be nice, yes. But it fits better under the Rock Genre. If we made Metal it's own genre, then both that genre and the rock genre would be pretty small(About the size of the token genre).

Brit funk is a musical style that has its origins in the British music scene ... Record companies and music press of the time wanted to change the face of Brit funk, ... and so Brit funk died out along with related forms of Soul, Funk, ...

It's also true that Arcade isn't really a traditional genre or style of music, but it's one of the most enduring classifications in the game. TGWP was moved from here to Classical due to the nature of the performance, but it still serves its dual feature of hosting different versions of video game music, a few originals like GGZ and Sonic 1 Final Zone, as well as "chiptune" compositions from people like Rushjet, Saskrotch and Virt that sound like they come from one. It could be argued that Mario Minor could get the boot to Rock for the same reasons mentioned earlier, but if taken too far the Arcade genre will wither away to nothing. |

Re: Switch out Funk Genre?
Funk -> Jazz
Hip hop now has funk songs too. Hip hop gets bigger, Misc gets smaller. Everyone wins! |
