Re: A CT thread for those that aren't Critical Thinkers
LOL Squeek. Yes that is a laugh out loud, not a thinking of laughing.
I do agree though, that "lol" is being overused, when I say it usually I am actually laughing. Very annoying when said after everything. |

It is indeed a sentence, albeit a lousy one. It has a subject (I), a verb (have) and an object (question). I just think you could have worded it much better.

Let's face it, they'er right. the only thing I disagree with is the 'lol' bit but otherwise they have proper posting grammer. You end up looking like an idiot when you use cumputer slang. |

Re: A CT thread for those that aren't Critical Thinkers
IMO, 'lol' is a disclaimer that implies that what I just said can't be taken seriously.
I don't really see the huge problem. I mean yea it's not "Engish major" correct, but internet forums don't have a high level of formality. It's like using "you" in an English essay (don't do it), "lol" and it's other short hand typing just denote how formal the text is. Spelling horribly but being understood shows a low level of importance and significance, not a low level of intellignece. (Though people tend to take you less seriously, but that's the point for typing in such a way) |

Point taken. I wasn't trying to be smart, I was just in a rush.

Re: A CT thread for those that aren't Critical Thinkers
Time to add my couple of cents.
I usually don't bother capitalizing the first letter of a line in AIM unless it's a proper noun or the pronoun "I". It's just much faster for me if I'm not typing anything that's less than a sentence long because I usually just whip my fingers onto the keyboard and start typing. Other than that, there's really no difference and, hey, there shouldn't be. Your pinkey finger on a regular QWERTY keyboard is sitting there most of the time doing nothing (I rarely even use my pinkey for "'", "?", or "]", I usually sweep my hand over and use my middle finger for those). When you've really mastered typing, it only takes a quick few seconds use "ur" instead of "your" and other dumb stuff like that in a 3 or 4 sentence paragraph. Unnoticable and it doesn't make you look like a moron. As a side note, I really like when Guido and Squeek constantly correct my spelling and grammar =)
