Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
These questions remind of the time my friend and I were discussing a situation from a movie. The movie "Like Mike" where Michael Jordan's shoes get struck by lightening and he gets his powers or whatever.
My friend and I were sitting there discussing how the shoes could have possibly survived a lightening strike enough to able to be worn and even look nice. Then out of no where, our other friend who was just listening to us at the time just said out of no where, "I like how you guys are arguing about the lightening striking the shoes and completely ignoring the fact that the shoes have magical powers."

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
This is retarded. You're talking about portals, why limit them to the properties of the video game? Clearly if portals could exist, they would be able to be different sizes.

And... Portals as far as we know, are only theories. But any answers that prove a question invalid because "the game" wouldn't allow it, isn't a valid answer since we don't know the the properties a portal in reality would actually have. |

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
you guys are all still crazy
a portal on the table doesn't mean you still can't stick it through the same-sized portal all that matters is that the width of the table is smaller than the height of the portal tards |

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
If portals were something that could exist, why would they have to be limited to adhering to stationary objects/walls? As long as the object does not deform and mutate the portal, I would think that a moving wall or panel wouldn't destroy a portal. So based on that you could put two boards with portals on them together. Now as Reincarnate said the object would be contained in the space of the height of the boards but if the object is larger than that space, what happens to the object? Is it crushed under itself?
As Kiwi said the portals don't need to be restricted to certain sizes. So throwing a portal'd object through another portal could happen.

Though since we're talking about hypothetical cases, if the portals were different sizes, then an object going through one will be bigger/smaller than the object coming out of the other. |

After reading this a little, this reminded me a whole lot of Monsters Inc. The doors they used were like portals... am i right?

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
Here's an interesting one after having seen (unfortunately) Portal rule 34'd.
If you make it so you can perform sexual acts on yourself, would that be considered gay? Use of portals, obviously. |

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
If portals weren't destroyed when the object moved, what would happen if you put a portal on a board, threw the board so that it flies straight forward without spinning, then jumped through the other portal. Would your speed coming out of the moving portal increase because the portal was moving? Or would your speed still match that of when you were entering the portal?
If the latter is the case, what if the portal was going faster than you could jump through, would it be impossible to enter the portal as the second you'd enter, the portal would swoop you right back up? What would happen if you put the other portal on the floor and stood on it?

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
You can't put a portal through a portal. If you place a portal on the wall and try to shoot a portal through it, it explodes on contact to the portal. Kind of like the emancipation grid.
Also, what if the table was wide enough to barely fit into the portal. That would cause the table coming out of the red portal to already submerged into the blue portal.

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
The reason why that stuff happens in-game is because it's easier to code that way. They're not coding the goddamned Matrix -- they have to draw the line somewhere for the sake of making shit easier (portals exploding, disappearing on rotating/moving surfaces/whatever etc).
There's nothing wrong conceptually with the idea of a portal through a portal |

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
If we're talking about portals existing anyways, we have to stay within the boundaries of the game since portals would only exist in the game.
