Have you taken art classes?
I know I'm never taking art EVER.

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
Of course I've taken art classes.
I spent about 2 months JUST working on anatomy this past year, it was hell. xD But yeah, I know I need to improve, but also drawing with a mouse doesn't make my drawings perfect either. I promise you if I had a tablet, it wouldn't have come out looking so.. >___> noobish. :3 |

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
Yeah, mouse drawings...psht, I couldn't even begin to do that myself - it'd be some demented stick figure or something. That's really good for a mouse drawing, it's not 'noobish.'
Two months on anatomy, was it in your art class? Lmao, personally, I was working over anatomy in separate parts, two-three weeks on a single thing. (Hands, eyes, upper arms, lower arms...etc.) My art class didn't go into any of that and good thing it didn't, I think doing it my way helped me a bit more than that would've, but I dunno. =\ Nyokou, I'd like to see you draw something with a tablet when you get one. You have a definite base for becoming an artist, and especially considering since you're 15. (I meant no offense there at all, don't take it as it.) <3 |

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
Thanks, yeah. My old tablet broke like 3 years ago or something, and I lost interest in drawing oekaki until just very recently.. I've wanted to start on it again.
But uh, yeah.. my class is different I guess since I was a freshman, not a lot of art classes here with mostly freshman get to do the things we did, cause well, I'm in this program called Center for the Arts. >___> No, it did not cost money, rofl, I just had to "audition" for it, as in.. I brought in my portfolio and answered questions about why I wanted to be in the center and I got in. ^___^ apparently though, the first year and last year are the hardest, so.. phew. I'm glad that's over. =D I almost got kicked out too. .__. but, oh well, I made it. :P Anyway.. o__O I just finished the second part. xD Took me I think 5-7 hours. Especially the darn background. o_o; EDIT: Oh, and in case you're wondering why Rika is smaller than Shion.. it's because she's younger than her. Shion is like 17-18 and Rika is about 7-9. Yeah, that's all. ^___^ just to clear things up. :3 Last edited by Nyokou; 07-3-2007 at 05:51 PM.. |

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
Hands are the most difficult. If you can draw hands realistically, you can draw just about anything. That's why Disney used to require any potential animators to submit a notebook of nothing but drawings of different sized hands.

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
Ah, mouse, that's a pain. >.< Trust me though, a tablet's no walk in the park either - at least not at first. It took me a good while to get used to that thing. It feels really awkward at first and you really don't have the same control as you would with a pencil. I have used tablet for years now, but I still feel much more comfortable with a paper and pencil than I do with it. :/
Sorry if I implied that your drawings were "noobish"; I didn't really mean it that way. I just thought I'd give you a nice tip since I notice many people ignoring line weight, and it is a relatively simple way to improve the look of your lineart by quite a bit. I think it's good that you're working on improving. At your age, my drawings were pretty crappy.

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
Jerks.
Nyokou you are a very talented artist. I might show some of my drawlings soon. To people that are look at the picture with the chick with green hair, the ears are fine. If you look at the angle of the head with the body, it may look off, but other than that, the ears are entirely correct.

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
Thanks, it's fine. It does kinda look awkward.
=/ But I like it. I think it's pretty damn good since I have barely touched oekaki in the past 3 years. xD |

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
I thought that the first girl's pose was extremely strange looking, but since you've added the second girl it seems infinitely better.
Also... why does she look so pissed off? |

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
Well, basically, the only thing I can say to not give away much information.. but, in the anime, Shion is a serial killer. >__>
And uh, I think I'll draw the other characters later. The next one will be Satoko Hojo.. I might draw her tomorrow I suppose, or on Saturday. Anyway, here's something I kinda did.. on and off today.. since I've been watching a marathon on t.v. But uh, it's my sad attempt at realism on oekaki. |

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
I think it's good, Nyokou, and I like the way you shaded it. Eyes and lips are a little off, but gee...you did really well, especially since it was on oekaki and you didn't draw it all at once. =]
Personally, I kinda fail at the very, VERY few attempts of realism (humans, I can do decent animals) that I've made over the years that I've drawn... The people that can draw realism is just -wow- to me for some reason. And I like your realism style. It sounds like you don't work with it often...do you, if you don't mind me asking? |

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
I do work with it, a lot, to be honest, a whole lot more than anime.
Anime.. yeah.. this is probably the only time I really get to brush up on my skills of because it's just a no-no in my art class at school. =/ Like.. not acceptable, since it's not really art, it's.. more of like a comic/animation, etc. Anyway.. uh, with oekaki.. not so great looking, but I can definitely make a bad ass realism drawing with paper and pencil, or oil pastels even. xD |

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
Oh, I see, that's a good thing. I haven't seen many realist artists lately, and that saddens me.
Yeah, that makes complete sense. My art teacher always got mad at me when I drew in the manga style, which was only two times or so, but still. She strongly disapproved of it. Kinda going off topic a little, but I think pencil-shaded realism is so pretty...but I imagine it would be hard as heck to do. If you're good at realism, there would definitely be jobs out there for you. =] I didn't mention this before, but about your second drawing, I love the way you drew her sitting; her dress looks great, and it looks like she's not a complete skinny-mini. If that made any sense, I suck at wording things sometimes. |

Re: ひぐらしのなく頃に Tribute Drawings
Good addition, but, I noticed that the backgrounds don't match if you were to put them together.
Well. Never mind. They aren't suppose to be put together. I now see that they are from different views. Nice job. =) |
