Survey Question: What is an American?
I am doing a survey question: "What is an American" for a research paper. I would just like to hear different people's opinions. The responses can be long or short.

Re: Survey Question: What is an American?
In my opinion: An American is someone who was born in the US. People born outside America can also be accepted as American if they have lived in the US for enough time and if they are supportive and patriotic.

Re: Survey Question: What is an American?
* A person who lives in either North or South America
* A person who was born in either North or South America * A US citizen * Someone who subscribes to cultural beliefs, heritage, or identity that is rooted historically or presently in a geopraphic area from within North or South America * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2OR6Kjo5m4 * A MISERABLE LITTLE PILE OF SECRETS! I dunno. I honestly think the word has no inherent meaning. It's just a label. Usually one applied symbollically though, meaning generally some combination of 3 and 4 in the minds of most people, with 5 perhaps fitting under that banner? I dunno. |

Also, within the context of what I assume your assignment is, I'm going to chime in with support for "Anyone who can legally obtain a US passport, or is under the guardianship of the same" (In that iirc, minors don't actually [possibly can't actually] get a passport, but qualify under their parent's for the purposes of travel) |

My first thought upon entering this thread was "A miserable little pile of fat."
I like it better than the stock answer that was already given. >_>
