FFR needs more classical/orchestrated songs
I was just listening to some Apocalyptica and Lindsey Sterling, and it would be great to see if there could be a flux of these types of songs that are based around string instruments.
However, permission has always been a hassle, but if it were possible, it would be a great idea to create these types of files (regardless of difficulty). If anyone would want to do this, I encourage them because there are plenty of great classical pieces and orchestrated songs. What do you guys think about this?

Re: FFR needs more classical/orchestrated songs
Yeah, I heard that Permission is the biggest problem that exists in being a Stepartist. Bummer, there needs to be a way that FFR could adopt that same legal permission similar to what Osu! has, but then there would probably be a copyright situation and all that crap.

Re: FFR needs more classical/orchestrated songs
The classical/jazz industry for permission getting is a lot more difficult then something simple like EDM or underground artists.
I haven't tried a lot of the classical / jazz record labels recently, I can give it a go if people want.

Re: FFR needs more classical/orchestrated songs
I'd step the shit out of some jazz if we got permission from some good artists

In my last visit to SanFran, I had a few drinks with this one guy who did publicity for a jazz record label. I'll give him a ring and see what happens.

Re: FFR needs more classical/orchestrated songs
Someone get permission from Reign of Kindo. They're INCREDIBLY talented musicians and sort of a jazz/fusion. I know they were signed with candyrat records and I'm not sure if they still are. I did sit down with the lead singer in a McDonald's for over an hour though, and he was super nice. If it was up to him, I'm positive they'd say yes because he is just passionate about the music and genuinely wants people to enjoy it in whatever way they can.
This one has unexpected changes at 1:05 and then another drastic one at 3:57. They have a lot of jazzy stuff, but overall very awesome. Also my music is considered contemporary classical (although there is a black MIDI song as well as a bubble bobble piano/voice cover.. ignore those). They're not that great, and all of them are composition assignments for 20th Century Techniques class that I took last year. I also don't think they'd make amazing files but they are not copyrighted and I would gladly give mp3's if anyone would be interested in stepping any of them. However, most classical/orchestral music is public domain if you just get it from composers who have been dead for over 70 years (basically any Baroque, Classical, or Romantic composer - which is all that really matters in classical music.. Nobody cares about turn of the century or 20th century like Schoenberg). The biggest problem from then is making sure the recording is not copyrighted, as in many cases it may be. I do agree we should have more classical though! Definitely! Last edited by dell2150; 11-18-2014 at 03:23 PM.. |

Re: FFR needs more classical/orchestrated songs
I would love to step some Reign of Kindo for FFR if someone could get permission.
If I recall correctly though they're signed to Candyrat (or were) so it could be a bit of a challenge. Though Candyrat seems like a pretty chill label so who knows. (omg if someone gets Candyrat blanket... Andy McKee, Antoine Dufour, Ewan Dobson... step ALL THE GUITAR SONGS) That said... Quote:
I don't think we can be friends anymore. Noted. Cool song. Bit long, takes a while to get going, surprisingly low rhythmic variation. Unfortunately I think I would either wind up making this somewhat easy, or a jacks-and-trills-to-marimba dump.

Re: FFR needs more classical/orchestrated songs
lol FFR already technically had permission from Kyle Landry for years, he replied to my comment asking for permission on some video (probably one on his account that got deleted)
I sent a screenshot of it to Tass a long time ago but evidently it never made it to the Artist Permission post and I've never finished stepping one of his songs. Part of the problem is they're all a bit long and, being live piano music, really hard to cut naturally. I could try finishing one sometime. Good that you have made the permission much more official now though.

Re: FFR needs more classical/orchestrated songs
Whoa, you actually have that contact with Kyle Landry?
I was thinking of some sort of cut of his arrangement of Time, and probably other things if I ever get around to listening to more than just a few pieces of his fairly large collection. |

Re: FFR needs more classical/orchestrated songs
Yeah he emailed me out of the blue the other night sounding super excited to get some of his stuff into the game, so he sent me some pieces he thought would be suitable. Since I'm not the greatest at syncing it takes me quite a while to step, but I'd love to see what a veteran stepartist could do with his stuff.

Re: FFR needs more classical/orchestrated songs
I'd definitely like to see those pieces that he thought would be suitable.
And, yeah, they can be difficult to step because it's a live performance, so the BPM will always be slightly drifting in addition to natural tempo changes in the piece. Last edited by ilikexd; 11-18-2014 at 03:54 PM.. |

Re: FFR needs more classical/orchestrated songs
Will pay 250,000 credits for a stepartist to get my song in game:
http://soundcloud.com/debit13/sentence Not an easy task given the repetition, hah. EDIT: and if people really like this I guess I can dabble in this genre more lol EDIT #2: actually, I need to get my old computer and do a quick remaster of this so that the lower end instruments are more prevalent; the lack of that area being filled really irritates me, heh Last edited by TC_Halogen; 11-18-2014 at 04:17 PM.. |

Re: FFR needs more classical/orchestrated songs
So I just called my guy in Cali. He is interested, he is gonna try to work out the legal biz for me so we don't need to pay royalty fee's for having the songs in game.
Oh yeah, and it's for these guys:
