Default help on guitar hero

I got guitar hero 3 for my bday today and ive mastered medium but i need to know whats the best way to play on hard, i cant seem to hit the notes. I'm talking about how you place your hand

Logically, you should move your fingers "down" one, so that your index finger is resting on the red fret, your middle finger on the yellow, etcetc.

It will be difficult at first, but as you continue to play, you'll be able to adapt to the orange key.
