Well, I'll be at work until 9:30pm EST...
Goodluck, everyone else! I'll still try and solve it, just won't be the 1st/2nd.

I thought this thread was where Tass was finally going to admit how he's mentally challenged, but I was disappointed.
It's ok Tass, we're all friends here. |

Re: Tass' Mental Challenge - Starts Wed 10/24 @ 6pm EST
Nonstandard = not grammatical.
Tass' is indeed improper, despite how much it's used today. The only time the possessive form of a singular subject can terminate in an apostrophe is if the final two vowels of the subject itself are sibilant. In terms of proper nouns, the only ones like this I've ever seen are Jesus and Moses, which is why they're the two that are always noted (Zeus requires an apostrophe and an S, by the way), but they're by no means the only ones, especially when you extend the range to improper nouns (like glasses) as well. This is done simply so that there aren't three consecutive sibilant syllables, as two is perfectly natural; Tass's is no more difficult than Rubix's, and I don't think anybody's going to argue that you should write Rubix'. Rubix, Lar, you two should really jump the bad grammar train and quit trying to overcomplicate an already complicated language. Apologies, Tass, but you should know that I can't let a grammar issue go unanswered. P.S. go read my sections in the Free Grammar Lessons thread. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |

Re: Tass' Mental Challenge - Starts Wed 10/24 @ 6pm EST
challenges like this, or like rubix's 2 challenges... to me, they aren't always about being the 1st to finish. they're about finishing it period. i will say that completing this challenge will not be simple. it isn't on the level of zest or notpron or the simplecodeworks puzzles... but it isn't as simple as connecting the dots either. you should feel a sense of accomplishment for finishing it, no matter if that is 30 minutes after it's posted or 30 days later.
i will not be posting any hints within the 1st 24 hours. after 24 hours, i may start giving a hint or two. i am fairly confident that each challenge has sufficient information presented to solve it without too much difficulty, so i don't want to give TOO much away, even over time. you guys may work together on this if you want.... but i'd kinda prefer it all to be solo work. clearly i can't prevent you guys from talking to each other. and, i definitely do not want anyone else but myself giving hints/assistance of any kind in this thread.
