Totally
http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...d.php?t=114619 Holy shit is right. Probably the most vivid depictions of gore in any text I've read.

Re: American Psycho
Yeah I just read it again last night. Got the urge after watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cPuaqGZGro
But jesus I forgot how maniacal some of those murders were. The one with Bethany makes my stomach turn. |

Re: American Psycho
definitely a case of 'prefer the film version' for me, but i know a lot of people who love the book. pretty divisive stuff i guess lol. to me though, as with rules of attraction, the film just strikes me as more sophisticated and less the weird combination of narrative flatness + torture-porn sensationalism Ellis does.
probably due for a re-read though, will edit with any update to opinion

Re: American Psycho
I read that passage, Rubix. I didn't find it 'gut wrenching' per se (maybe I'm dull to literary violence?) but it was exceptionally grotesque. In terms of the full text I haven't gotten my hands on it, but the character that develops in my mind of Patrick just from that short passage is pretty clear. Well written, vulgarity and violence aside.

Re: American Psycho
I have a pretty active imagination that tends to fill in all sorts of gaps between the lines... what's there is already very grotesque, as you put it -- but when I envision what that sort of scenario would actually be like... jeeeeesus

Re: American Psycho
It's the little things like that in this book that shaped his character's mindframe through the text so well @__@
