Well, considering the fact that Mario has a much more powerful Final Smash attack than Link, here's how the battle goes:

Link uses his bomb. Mario uses his Fireballs to blow it up before it hits him.

Mario sees the Final Smash Ball floating in the air. But Link uses his arrow to get it.

Link uses his Final Smash Attack on Mario by getting very close to him. But Mario uses Yoshi.

Poor Yoshi.

Mario jumps back. Sees a Pokeball. Marios gets the Pokeball.

Throws.

WTF, ITS A F**KING GOLDEEN! Link walks straight through the Goldeen and attacks Mario with his really really big hammer (Used in Legend of the Windwaker).

Mario uses Toad. (Apparently, Peach gave Toad to Mario!).

DEFLECTED!

This sends Link flying! Then, Mario sees the Final Smash Ball again.

Mario jumps.

Double Jumps.

Kicks.

MARIO HAS THE FINAL SMASH BALL!

Mario gets down. (By the way, Link is still on the ground from the deflected attack earlier in the battle.)

Mario uses his Final Smash attack and sends Link flying off into a dark abyss of despair in a fiery blaze.

The end.

Eh? Link can swim without the blue tunic. The blue tunic allows him to breathe underwater.

I would say Link would beat Mario. He can deal more damage and sustain more damage...He has way more items at his disposal and has a lot more experience in tactics and fighting over Mario. In general, Link just has more control over multiple elements of fighting than Mario. Mario seems to be better at fighting at close range, but Link has his sword and shield for that type of combat. Mario's experience just doesn't seem to match Link's experience...

Oh, and for those saying Mario could use that star and take out Link...Link has Naru's Love. Yeah...and I'm pretty sure it lasts longer than Mario's star. (I know it lasts at least just as long.) Basically...It seems like Link can counter anything Mario can do (besides jumping high, hahaha) and he can handle things more efficiently. There's a larger combination in tactics Link can use over Mario. The list just goes on in showing the advantages Link has over the given situation...

Meh...I don't know why I bothered with this. xD

Edit: In case someone said something about Mario using that invisible cap thing, Link has the Eye of Truth, so nyahhh.

You also have to take in consideration that yes link has all these weapons, but mario has a lot more speed than him. Hence, even though he has a big fat sword, mario can jump over it after a big swing and stomp his head.

While link is stunned from the head stomp, Mario summons a gigantic Chomp that eats Link.

Link may have all of this "cool" stuff but mario has the bowser suit from mario party. To kill a bowser you need to hit him with a giant spikey bomb. I dont think link carries giant spikey bombs in his pockets
