Secret Mission TWG
This is an idea of mine I came up with at work.
If you've ever played the board game Risk you might be aware that there's a variant included with the game called Secret Mission Risk. In Secret Mission Risk everyone is given a card detailing their individual conditions for victory. The first one to complete their secret mission wins. I was thinking about this at work today and I thought "Hey, why not Secret Mission TWG?" The rules are VERY different from Secret Mission Risk so read on. Secret Mission TWG 1 seer, 1 psychic, ? wolves, ? players It works like this. Basically our peaceful little village gets a werewolf infestation, as usual. However in this village, there are deep-seated jealousies and conflicts among the townspeople, most of whom are very wicked. Therefore, when the werewolves come, people are thinking "Hey, I can use this to my advantage - now I have a good excuse to kill this guy I've hated forever!" In every human's PM they are given the names of 2 players chosen at random: their Mark and their Ward. Your Mark is the particular player you want to see dead by the end of the game. This person can be wolf, or human. Your Ward is the person you're trying to protect. You want this person to stay alive the whole game. This person can be wolf, or human, as well. This way no one has any idea who's human and who's not from their ward picks. Your Ward will never have you for a Mark. Terminology: If you are my ward, I am your Protector. If you are my mark, I am your Assassin. If you're a wolf, your Mark and Ward will both always be human. It is not wise for wolves to tell each other their Marks and Wards, as they may be mutually exclusive. (For example, Wolf A might have Human X as his Ward and Wolf B might have him as his Mark.) MURDER TEAMS. This is how you get your killings done without having to get other people to lynch them. Basically, every night you can either join a Murder Team or a Defense Team. Murder Teams are arranged around their target, Defense Teams are arranged around the person they're trying to protect. You PM the host every night with the person you want to murder, or protect. "I choose to murder Blah tonight" puts you on a murder team with everyone else who wishes to do so. "I choose to defend Blah tonight" puts you on a defense team with everyone else who wishes to do so. Yes, you can choose to defend yourself at night! It's quite simple. If the murder team is larger than the defense team centered around the target, the target is killed. If the murder team is smaller, the target is protected and the names of everyone on the murder team are revealed. Both wolves and humans can join murder teams and defense teams. Even if you're a member of a 10-man defense team, if the defense team is not centered around you, then you can be killed by 1 person. If you choose to defend yourself, it takes more than 1 person to kill you, obviously. WOLF KILLS. Wolves still get their kill every night. This is independent from murder teams, and no defense team can protect against a wolf kill. (Wolves are strong!) In the morning, the group learns who's dead. Vote to lynch for whatever reasons necessary. Game ends the normal way, with normal TWG win/loss conditions. Scoring system: +3: You are on the winning team. +4: You survive until the end of the game. +2: Your Mark died. +1: You had a hand in your Mark's death (you were part of the murder team, or you voted to lynch them.) +1: You killed your Assassin. +2: Your Ward survived the game. +3: You murdered or lynched your own Ward and they turned out to be a wolf. Penalties: -1: You had a hand in killing your Protector. -1: You murdered or lynced your own Ward and they turned out to be a human. I think this game would be far more interesting with a huge set of players, like more than 20. This way there would be more opportunity for conspiracy and intrigue. (In other words, slipping false information trying to get your Mark's Protector to try to get him to defend someone else.) There's also the wolf-human intrigue going on at the same time. Good luck trying to convince people to kill a human just cause he's your Mark! Thoughts? |

WOW. simply wow. This looks very intense and very fun. I think I get the basics.
You did a good job writing out the rules and I read all of it, but is there an easier and more condensed version. |

I'm always down for finding out flaws in your games Chardish.
I'll play under 2 conditions. 1. you don't go and vote to ban me without ever talking to me first... 2. you agree to NOT stop the game midway through because I found some huge flaw in it. I'd say 90% either myself or blah will find some huge flaw in the game. Its practically inevitable. You need to stop ending games. Other than that, sounds like fun. I'm all for games where it requires more thought to win than normal (read: tribal game... which we had won before night 1 started, even if it was cancelled day 1).

RE: Secret Mission TWG
Sounds awesome. I'd be willing to partake in this, of course.
As always, though, I'm bad with rules First, can the Murder Team kill wolves just as they can kill humans? Sounds kind of like it could be used as a Viligante, heh. Second, what's with the ?wolves and ?players thing? Is that to be decided upon how many people sign up or something? Third, what exactly will the points do? And lastly, will you still be penalized if you had a hand in killing your Protector and they turned out to be a wolf? I'm sure at least half of these were clarified in the rules and I just didn't get it *sigh* I need tutoring for how to read rules or something. |

RE: Secret Mission TWG
so is there only one target for the murder/defense teams per night, or can there be multiple?
multiple wouldn't make sense, and I'm not sure how you're handling lynchings... unless lynchings are handled via this murder/defense scheme, where it would sort of be like the day's votings were primaries and then the night's were the election, when people decide to murder/defend the number one vote-getter during the day. |

There's definitely going to be some flaw in this somewhere. Maybe we should play 2 practice days or something, then start the real game. This would hopefully expose flaws while also giving the players an opportunity to get used to this new style.

So just a question Tass... You are going to play the game just to see whats messed up with it, then exploit it?

The lynching is completely seperate. The Murder and Defense Teams don't affect the lynchings at all. I could've misread something though, as I am bad with rules. So if I'm wrong, someone point it out. |

What happens if there is a tie between the # of people on the murder and defend team. 10 to kill Blah and 10 to defend him?

RE: Re: RE: Secret Mission TWG
Clarifications:
Tass: Notify me of flaws you find before you want to play, not after. I'd rather have a fun game for everyone than an easy win for one person. Danceguy: Yes, Murder Teams can kill wolves. It's kind of like vigilantism except you usually would want more than 1 person to do it. Talisman: Lynchings are normal, and separate from the murder activity, which takes place @ night. Upon further deduction, it's probably a good idea to can the seer. It makes it too easy to nab wolves - seer sees a human, seer sees a wolf, both of the known humans murder the wolf. If there's a tie between murder and defense teams, the defense team wins. If two people try to murder each other, the murders fail and both learn each other's identity. Let's look at a sample night so you all can figure out how murder works. Red decides to murder Green. Blue decides to murder Green. Green decides to defend himself. Yellow decides to murder Blue. Orange decides to murder Purple. Purple decides to defend himself. White decides to murder Purple. Black decides to defend Purple. Green's murder team: Red, Blue Green's defense team: Green Result: Green dies Blue's murder team: Yellow Blue's defense team: Nobody (Blue is murdering Green instead of defending himself) Result: Blue dies Purple's murder team: Orange, White Purple's defense team: Purple, Black Result: Nobody dies, Purple and Black both learn that Orange and White tried to kill Purple I really hope there wouldn't be so much senseless killing in one night, though. At least, not at first. This will be a great game for insidious people. |

@ Tass: You're being an ass again. You got banned for that. Stop it, unless you're trying for something prolonged. I don't think Chardish has a problem doing that.
This sounds like fun. I'd love to try it. Would this be a separate TWG, though, or would we try it in XIX?

It's not a completely different game(i.e. Infiltration), it's just TWG with scholiosis. So I'm assuming it will be XIX.
P.S. Sounds like fun.

RE: Re: RE: Secret Mission TWG
Ok, thanks Chardish for clearing up a few problems that I couldn't think of last night (5am this morning). Since there can be multiple murders per night I see why you want 20+ people.
I'm extremely interested in playing this, do you have any idea as to when it will start (yes I know in 2 games. but what date range, if it is possible to tell)? I want to know because I will be taking a few months off for the Soccer season which takes priority over most things. |
