[High School - English] Any Nonfiction suggestions?
For my AP English class we can select any nonfiction book to read and then write about. I'm having trouble finding a book that will keep my interest. Does anyone know of any great ones?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! =] |

It can be any kind of nonfiction at all! Very vague, which is making it harder to find something...

You might try one of the Constable and Robinson Ltd "A brief history of" series of books.
They are non-fiction accounts of various aspects of history, but written with enough narrative to still be interesting to read and not like a textbook. I've read the Brief history of the Hundred Years War, and the Crimean War and found them both really interesting. Quote:

Angela's Ashes. It's an autobiography written like a novel.

Zero: the biography of a bad idea (Charles Seife)
Pretty easy read, and interesting how young the mathematical concept is and how it was reasoned/developed. For some much heavier (though not much more complicated) reading, read "Into the Cool: Energy Flow, Thermodynamics, and Life". AMAZING book which explains how almost every part of life can be reduced simply to the Second Law of Thermodynamics. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |
