Anyone experienced with microphones / live recordings?
Hey everyone. I'm currently writing a 4 song EP that sounds similar to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ai0htHlsqZo Currently I've only got a gaming headset, and trying to record even demo-quality guitar and vocals sounds like dog shit. Recording on my PHONE sounds much better. My question: for live recordings that need no post-rendered effects (distortion, etc.) could anyone recommend a cost-effective microphone that will give me true sound on electronic guitars and screamed vocals? Doesn't need to be top of the line shit, I'm only looking to record a demo. Also: I'd prefer if it's a standard microphone input, or at least can be converted with a piece of equipment. I can't go sticking quartar inch jacks into my computer, I don't have firewire or a midi mixing table. Last edited by SoggyWaffulz; 10-31-2012 at 03:33 PM.. |

Re: Anyone experienced with microphones / live recordings?
should't ever use a USB input for professional recording,
you'll want an audio interface and 1/4-Inch Plug M audio probably has the cheapest (useful) audio interfaces, have always considered them gateway recording tools http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Mobile...udio+interface I'd HIGHLY recommend that For microphones, i'd stay away from m-audio (you get the infamous hiss) and go with Rode or Shure, especially if it's vocals and guitar you're wanting to record They're a bit more expensive but for the quality, much more worth it

Re: Anyone experienced with microphones / live recordings?
Presonus OneBox. $249 for the entire traditonal setup. Just need a mic-stand.
But yeah, wanna stay away from USB mics. They tend to be for entry-level podcasting and such, so the sound quality and analog to digital conversion is going to sound crap. Better than recording to your phone, but crap none-the-less. Presonus OneBox will be THEE least expensive GOOD sound. If you want to budget more than that, then step up to the Rode NT1A Package with the Focusrite 2i2 interface. About $400 for both of those with a stand. Best of luck. Let me know if you have any other questions P.S. I'm the Sales Manager at the Tampa Sam Ash and know Pro Audio like nobody's business
