Dream Analysis
after reading the dream topic, i would really like to hear all of your opinions on what dreams are and what they mean. i've got some notes on what psychologists think (most of which is likely wrong) in my room, but i'm at work right now. so, i'll post that stuff later.

i think dreams are somehting that your mind makes up because it is bored and nothing better to do besides keep you breathing.

dreams are just so you dont go insane
or they might be thoughts towards the future or the past i will do some research on the net, then i can see why psycologists say.

Ok...someone figure out what the hell this one means.
I was at school, and for some reason there was a coke machine at one end of the hall. So I go up, order a diet coke (which is odd, because I always drink regular), and for some reason it gets stuck. Cans and cans of coke start pouring out, I grab two cokes and a mountain dew and go back to class. But on the way there, I see a mountain dew 2 liter sticking out of an open locker. I jump up and grab it, and it turns out to be empty. Then I wake up. Wtf? |

Yeah, I agree with the person that said that dreams keep you sane. I remember a quote saying that dreams are when you are peacefully, safely, and temporarily insane. But I believe dreams are when you witness what's going on in your subconcious mind when theres no memories to capture. Instead of capturing what the eye sees, it's basically recounting what the eye saw that day or how it interpreted what the eye saw. The dreams may seem a little dim lighted or blurry because you really aren't fully concious. Unless you become concious, and *lucid dreaming rules!*

dreams are just your thoughts in your sleep
when you are awake, you concsious(sp) mind is more active than your unconcsious(sp), but when you sleep, it's visa-versa. So when you are asleep, you UC mind becomes clearer and since you have your eyes closed, you don't see anything but your eyelids so it would be easy to picture your thoughts. |

Hey I've heard alot about lucid dreams. Has anyone here actually had one? If you have, please share your dream. Also, how do you have a lucid dream? Is there a way that you can make it happen? I want to have a lucid dream so badly.

From what we disscussed in my English Enriched class, this is what i can come up with.
Dreaming is a collaboration of a persons conscious and sub-concious. The subconscious of a person is hidden while they are awake and perceptive, but as soon as a person drifts into a comatose state of sleep, their subconscious is revealed and problems/issues that maybe have been bothering them appear in what we know as dreams. Dreams can also appear as hallucinations which people achieve from taking drugs or from being tired. later, |

Haha I've had one before, lucid dream I mean. At first I wasn't really aware of it and then after it just snapped and i was like, o daym I'm dreaming. So I dunno, my first reaction was to prove myself right and so thus I pinched myself. There was no pain really, just a dull feeling; like pinching your leg when it's asleep. And after that.. I dun remember much. However, this was the only time I've EVER had a lucid dream; at least, only time I can remember.
As for dreams: I once saw a show on the discovery channel talking about how it works. The scientists say that it's just random bursts of thoughts all melded together (something along those lines). However, I don't believe that (or don't want to); my dreams always mean something to me and I find it hard to believe that they're just random thoughts.

The average dream is no longer than 7 minutes. So it obviously isnt to keep your mind entertained...but maybe it is to keep your mind "awake" while the body sleeps.

If a lucid dream's a dream where you know you're dreaming, I get those all the time, I totally fucking abuse it going around with a knife or something stabbing people I hate. Then for some reason I could fly in one, so I went around flying and kicking people. Then one time, I only knew I was dreaming because I remembered having the same dream before, and I'm all like, hey, this is a dream, sweet, then I went and threw rocks at shit...

Yes, that's basically a lucid dream. Once you gain lucidity, everything becomes less blurry and dark, and seems almost real. You can do anything you want, from beating Michael Jackson with a stick, to reassassinating JFK. There's endless possibilities. The key to having a lucid dream, is realizing that you're dreaming. There'll be a weird transition from there. To gain the most lucidity possible, you must be as sure as you can be that you're dreaming. Do all of these tests when you think you're dreaming or when you've gained just a little bit of lucidity:
1. Look for weird things. Is your cat suddenly purple? Why is your dresser on the kitchen sink now? 2. Look at the time. Does it tell real time? Or does it just show a timer, or ANY numbers at all? Is your clock even there? 3. Pull your finger. No, you won't fart (unless you want yourself to), but your finger will stretch if you're dreaming. 4. Want to do something. Say to yourself "I want there to be a hot chick in my room when I walk back into it." Feel it happening, and feel yourself making it happen. Try to feel like Neo inside the Matrix. If anything happens, congradulations! There's a hot chick in your room! |

Some psycologists think that dreams are a sorta-of wish fulfillment for things that wouldn't be allowable in society.
