Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
For files like these having awkward patterns (aka too much PR) is ok, since piano players don't think chopin's music is bad because of its requirement of awkward finger/hand movement.

sona: It's awkward to play it on the piano so that justifies the awkward patterns, duh.
That just makes it hard to appreciate, jx.

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
That's what absolute PR is meant to be, it perfectly makes sense
ps it could be a bit off on FFR due to gap/conversion issue, but from what I've heard sync is ok. |

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
You're on Vista and you're talking about sync?? Dude, everything is offsync in Vista.
How true this is. Some people can't draw worth a ****. Some people can't write worth a ****. Some people can't step worth a ****. But they all think they can! Man, how true this is.

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
That's weird, after the dwi is converted to a flash file FFR engine doesn't calculate BPM changes at all. It just reads the location of arrows by the frame number.

Sync seems fine to me...
Just install Windows 7 or XP or something. :\ And I know the PR makes perfect sense, it's just harder to appreciate because it's more fun to play files that flow really well, at least for most... maybe...

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
OMW v2 is perfectly synced, either your computers not working, or your smoking so much pot that your nerve receptors are slowing down. I'm shocked at how JX was able to sync it that well, the speed changes and different notes are really, really well placed

playing piano is like mega different then stepmania. stepmania is meant to be fun, so awk. patterns are bad. piano playing is meant to evoke the music or w/e in any way, so if awkward hand patterns get in the way, oh well. if you say a stepfile of piano should evoke playing piano in any way, i disagree.

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
That's just more of the same "stepfiles are supposed to be reflections of the music and not the playing of instruments" argument, just a counterpoint.
Both can be a fun challenge. Sometimes people just really like the PR and layering to be perfect so then the fun-factor of the file is just dependent on the song. Most of the time there's at least some compromise, but whatever, we've already exhausted that conversation. The bottom line is you can do whatever the **** you want as long as what you're doing is correct within your own rule set (if you have one :\). I guess it's kind of pointless to argue over opinions but my point is that just because you have an opinion doesn't mean the other stepfile is worse, because they're not directly comparable. Unless you were to take an exhaustive poll. And step one song two different ways. Hmm....

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
whatever what i'm saying is that because a song is hard/awkward to play irl doesn't mean the stepfile has to be.

Well, I wouldn't have responded had you said that.
You said that it shouldn't be, not that it didn't have to be.

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
I just said it's one of the styles of stepping, it's not a duty or something.
I don't think any patterns in that file are that awkward or difficult to be honest. plus "awkward" is pretty much a subjective word as well as "fun", so I doubt any constructive discussion can be done by that word. |

This is a place where you suggest songs, right? Because I'm not going to say anything about stepfiles.

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
There's a [Light], [Standard], and [Heavy] on the band's widget (corrected—see below), so the steps that are in FFR have the [FFR Chart] label.
Edit: Oops, sorry about that. I didn't even remember FFRock. Makes more sense for it to be the "FFR Chart", then, 'cause it only has four arrows... Yeah. Last edited by Silvuh; 07-14-2009 at 03:42 PM.. |
