I need some assistance...
I know this forum might not help me much but if it is at all possible I need people to really help me out here.
Some know I have a girlfriend in Canada, met a year ago on here and in a few months she'll be 18 and wants to move here with me. I'm doing all I can to get ready for her to be here and to help her move and transition into the American lifestyle. My dilemma is that her father is protesting this excursion and told her he's gonna do everything in his power to keep her from getting citizenship and moving here. Before he gets a phonecall or a knock on the door from me, I want ANYONE to tell me the legal processes and rights of an 18 year old canadian woman in gaining citizenship to the states. Do the parents play ANY role in that decision? Does ANYONE besides the person in decision have to make decisions for her(besides the government decision to administer citizenship)? Can someone please help me get my facts and processes together before I confront him?

Re: I need some assistance...
I THINK that when you reach 18 in Canada (my country), You're parents does not have the rights to stop you living somewhere else.
I'm pretty sure of that but I'm not certain. You might want to ask Devonin, he seems to know a lot xD Plus, he's canadian. |

Thank you, this is a good explanation of some things I need to argue our side of the decision.

Re: I need some assistance...
She would probably have to declare independency from her parents. They can't legally stop her from doing whatever she wants when she turns 18, but that just means they would pretty much disown her and she would be ****ed if you couldn't support her.

I agree with Izzy, how are you going to support each other at that age? Especially in this economy. >.>

Re: I need some assistance...
Actually quite simple, I have a great job making $2,500 a month and still getting raises, as well, she's gonna come here to go to school for 3D architectural and drafting design which yeilds good profit anywhere you go so financially, I'm not afraid of how I'm going to support her. Hell soon with that degree she can support us XD

Re: I need some assistance...
When you're 18 in Canada your parents have 0 role what-so-ever. At 14 you can decide to have sex unless you're 2 years older than here AND 18+

Re: I need some assistance...
How about get a girlfriend that lives in the same place you do?
EDIT: Ever think shes just a huge liar and now that shes 18 she realizes that a long distance relationship especially in two different countrys is stupid? Shes probably getting rammed by 3 french canadian men as I type this. Just be careful man.

Re: I need some assistance...
Why is it so hard for people to meet people in person, rather than dating online? Most adults who meet online don't have the ability to drop their lives and switch countries, what makes you think someone who is barely turning 18 is going to be satisfied moving to another country away from all she knows?
I'd say, keep your online dating thing until you come to your senses man, no offense.
