Min wage here in Michigan is $7.40 and I have not seen that number change.

My face when my job though is making more than min wage here, but less than min wage in some states, and California soon to be included if not already.

Actually I looked up the priciest states to live in like not too long ago and it was something like
Hawaii being number 1, Then Alaska, Then connecticut, then New York, then New Jersey.

Minimum wage here in BC is over 10 bucks an hour... I make almost 30 and I can barely afford to live.... The costs here rival big cities like downtown Vancouver or downtown Calgary...

You make $30/hr and can barely afford basic living expenses? I don't believe that. That's like ~$50k a year. Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you're saying, I obviously don't know your situation in life etc but that just seems weird or Canadian.

Higher minimum wage = less available jobs and less small businesses able to open.....

Also, for people like me, it would mean less money to give out raises to those who actually deserve it. I would be stuck making the same as the incompetent employee working next to me because the business cant afford to pay the good employees higher.

Theoretically you could pay everyone in the state $1/hr to pick up trash on the streets. 100% employment! But it wouldn't be a livable wage and you'd have significant opportunity cost along a variety of metrics. You need to take all the data in together to make an accurate assessment.

It is true that some small businesses may get pressurized, but if a business can't afford to pay its workers a livable wage (even if the business itself is not going skew-heavy with the payout distribution), then it technically can't afford to do business and isn't actually adding optimal value to society anyway.

There's no one right answer to whether or not minimum wage is good or bad -- it depends on a lot of other factors and trends. It's sort of like asking if it's always good to wear a coat in winter. If it's freezing and snowing outside, then sure. But if you live in a hot place where even the winters are sunny, then maybe it's not such a good idea. Similarly, there are going to be situations where minimum wage helps a lot more than it hurts, and other times where it's clearly not the solution.
