Gumpert Apollo WIP - 3D modelling.
Hello
FINISHED Final result was: Will start off with the current render so you don't have to browse for it: I will begin my Gumpert Apollo this week, however there are so many different mods on it, and to avoid mixing up cars like on my calsonic, I want this project to be tidy. I want (wish) everyone could post their favorite gumpert apollo model, mod, number, year and so on if they have it, for those who don't know the car just google it and pick one you like. Here are the 3 blueprints of it, not so sure I like them so I will buy the vector drawings of it, but first I want to decided which to make.. http://www.the-blueprints.com/bluepr...t_apollo_2009/ http://www.the-blueprints.com/bluepr...t_apollo_2008/ And the white one in this one is my favorite model: http://www.thesupercars.org/wp-conte...t-apollo-3.jpg Also, darkshark, should I splinecage it? I tried to do it but it seemed a waste of time to me. I'm sorry I couldn't present any 3D modelled stuff to it in my first post but I'll make the WIP from point one and we'll see how it develops from here.. So shoot your suggestions, I have work + school + exhib. until thursday which is when I will put down as many hours I got spare on it =) All reference is good! C u Mythix ;* EDIT: I WANTED to do the 2010 one since it's the coolest one but I can't find any references of it.. Nothing.

Re: Gumpert Apollo WIP - 3D modelling.
Don't spline it unless you like headaches.
If you plan on making a detailed interior, box model it, if you're just aiming for a detailed exterior and aren't all too worried about the inside, then planar modeling will work best. Lots of curves and hard clean lines on this car, it should prove to be pretty challenging, good luck! |

I want interior to be sexy this time, hell I may make the interior cage first even, or simply make it as a training project on the side before I hit exterior~ And thanks this'll be a challenge for sure...=D

Re: Gumpert Apollo WIP - 3D modelling.
What is topgear D:
jk Anyways I'll just throw these two out here, it's my attempt on a saleen-S7 I made this on 10-12 hours only and it's pretty low poly (before smooth) While that took 10 hours, my blue calsonic took 250? Lol. I plan on using 200 hours on this one too, not including interior and wheels.. The calsonic was for training, using multiple tutorials on hard surface modelling and mastering turbosmooth and figuring it out (ty DS) since it helps on cars that's not game models... My car doesn't really look anything like the Saleen-S7 it looks like something I drew then puked out but I'll share them anyways, and I'll hope you get to see some sick improvement on supercar modelling http://www.fn-9.com/F9_People/Mythix...inished_MT.jpg And http://www.fn-9.com/F9_People/Mythix...inished_MT.jpg That was before I learned HDRI maps, matte, turbosmooth, detaching, snapping vertices, hard surface modelling, bumps and dents and so much more.. =)

Re: Gumpert Apollo WIP - 3D modelling.
Sorry for the slow start, I got caught up with rendering my own stuff..
Here is a new render of the calsonic (also I brought in my bugatti (tweaked edges etc) and rendered it with my HDRI since I never did it earlier but it's a bad car don't look at the bugatti) (click thumbnails for bigger picture) Anyways update: And wire: I think this wire is so clean compared to my previous starts, it just feels like I'm floating instead of struggling with things. Obviously it's not perfect since I still have bumps and it's not photorealistic but it comes so much more easy now! Hope to finish the entire exterior chassis before week ends <3 Hope I won't get any death-threats from the two apollo lovers :\

Re: Gumpert Apollo WIP - 3D modelling.
Update:
Had alot of trouble melding the edges where the wheel arch melds into the ledge but I think I nailed it well enough, inner part will be covered by a grill

It's all your fault I'm pulling my hair out! I'll be bald before I'm 23!
Na joking this is a dream to model, challenging but logical pattern ^^ You satisfied thus far?

UP
Door done though some corner issues again (I seem to never get those right).. About the triangle on the roof I haven't sharpened the edges so it will look like someone swung a hammer on it for now ^^

New update:
I have cleaned it up some since this photo but roof corners still mess up from certain angles, not completely sure why~ Cheers

Re: Gumpert Apollo WIP - 3D modelling.
About time I got to a place I had no idea how to model. I pondered it for too long, remodelled it plenty times.
My best looking wire was with alot of tris, so I retopologied everything into polygons only and the clay render looks good.. Don't knoww if I have made a nest for myself which will ruin the reflection, if anyone knows please tell me.. Included wire of the melding ledges on the right side~ Jupp jupp, will finish the exterior in not too long! Chassis atleast, lights/grills/tank/logo/door handle/spoiler/exhaust/wheels/bumper/engine air vent/engine/windows/those rubber thing on the windows/screws/plates left! Only.. 19479147 hours! Lol yet this is so rewarding.

Re: Gumpert Apollo WIP - 3D modelling.
Sorry I went away for the entire holidays
Here is a reflection test with lights and enviroment map only, dark blue = no bounce areas that don't get as much light.

Re: Gumpert Apollo WIP - 3D modelling.
Just got abit bored, decided to test render it.. No effort in this really all pretty basic, minimal tweaking~ robot is a game model a friend made around 500 polygons with 256k colors, rigged etc~ for warcraft 3 ^^
Also a turntable of it (I render out turntables to be able to see constant clay render 360degrees to show every bump etc and you can see quite a few in it sorry about the black background that was a NOOB move by me -.- but still works.. AO enabled! Here we go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju_1f4NJZq8

Re: Gumpert Apollo WIP - 3D modelling.
3D studio max, the render for the two last shots are in VRAY though which you have to *cough* "buy".. Piratebay has a special offer right now, take thousand pay for none but you'll have to find the way there yourself.
Materials, pretty basic- vray shader for cars, background is low quality radiance map only. Here is a TEST render, not meant to look like the real car, only to show details/edges/reflection for me and it's easier to compare when I have it like that. The tail lights are bad- as in, I have to do them again and re-topologize the back too to maintain a nice edgeflow.. so /slitswrist for me. I just duped the headlights to the back so it didn't look empty... So as I said it's just to compare and show the car in its wholivity (which btw isn't a word). Head lights done, adding shrews/materials on a later stage.. Grills are modelled, not textured, but I will redo them (doesn't take long really) but I copied them from my previous car and went copy-paste-FFD box so they don't really fit.. Take a close look I am particulary happy with how my wheels turned out, pretty realistic.
