I belive I have just figured it out. You let the cup fall in the direction of the window. Gravity will keep the cup on the stick (or in my case the butt end of a sword). When the stick is at 50 degrees from vertical you push the cup out of the window. I just did it. I can show you the whole model in vidchat if needed.
Then you could use your pole to vault over the flames and toward the un-locked door

My first assumption was similar to Tasselfoot's, since fire uses oxygen, there is a possibility the mug could be sucked on the ceiling.

Fire needs oxygen to survive, and the window is open, leading to an oxygen source. 6 Feet Tall with average proportions gives a arm-length of I'd say 2.5 feet. this gives me 0.5 feet extra if I were to use the pole to close the window.

also, There is probably a door in the room, because I probably didn't come in through the window and I wasn't forced in here.

The question asks "How do you avoid getting killed by this explosion?" meaning there will be gasoline falling into the fire.

So in the case of an explosion, the best thing to do would be to push the cup as far away as I can from me so the explosion isn't in my area which is the only place without a fire. Gasoline should only intensify the fire in that specific region, so it shouldn't affect me too much.

Then I can use the pole to close the window, which would eliminate a continouous oxygen supply and limit the oxygen in the room.

The fire i'm dealing with is probably yellow, which is incomplete combustion.

I believe the chemical formula for that is CxHy + O2 -> CO2 + H2O + CO

Assuming i'm in the center of the room, and in the end is the window at 12 feet, the door must also be at 12 feet, so I can use the pole to try to clear the way by spreading the "h2o" portion of the chemical formula over the fire, putting it out, then leaving through the door, then getting out of the structure.

That's what I would do at least.

There doesn't have to be gas falling into the fire. By "this explosion" I mean that it will inevitably occur if you can't figure out a solution. You'll tire out and drop the cup.

And the fires are tightly-packed. If you drop the gas anywhere, it's going to blow everything up in like a second.

Well since I can make any reasonable assumptions, I'll assume I am standing right next to the door I came in and I will step back out and close the door.

gaus: Hm, well I mean, that solution would work if you were actually able to do that. Was the cup full of something? I actually had stuff in my cup and didn't want to risk making a mess (nor, in the fire/gas situation, would I want to risk trying to push it out the window like that with such potentially lethal consequences). How many times did it take you to correctly push the cup? If your answer is "more than one" then it's probably not something you'd want to do.

I got it on the first try (though getting the cup up myself took a few trys) and repeated the results 2 times in a row after that. 3/3 + 100%.
I even made a fake window...

And no the cup was not filled with a liquid. The "window" is a project im making & its not water-proof. It is my opinion that no liquid would have come out though because constant force was pushing anything contained down into the cup.

This is life and death we're talking about, and a cup full of some shifty stuff. Are you going to trust that nothing will spill? Would you actually do this?

Rubin0: Oh man. To be entirely honest, that thought never even occurred to me despite an earlier riddle where pissing was the solution, lol. I guess you could, but there's no way you'd be able to piss on every flame in the room (you simply don't have enough urine or length :P). And I'm not sure if you could even piss out enough flames around you to even give you enough room to change your situation dramatically. I'm more inclined to think that it wouldn't work. But, uh, I'll just say "great and awesome idea, but I have no idea... regardless there are still better solutions."

If you could, the possibility exists that you could do so, and then vault out the window.

I would try to extinguish the flames without the cup or the pole because it seems way too risky. I would take off any article of clothing I had on that could possibly blanket the flames. Whether it would work or not, that is probably what my first attempt would be....and if it failed I would just be naked in a ring of fire. Great.

Ok, I will use water. I will do it once, but I have no way of recording it. (excluding vidchat viewers)
Changes I made are my ceiling is 10 feet, my "stick" is 3 feet, and the window distance is still 2 feet more then the stick length. Does this please you?
