How about we have a raw score TP bar and a combo based TP bar? That way people with laggy as shit computers have some chance at getting TP's. Also, maybe have the ability to choose which of the two bars shows.

I disagree with raw scoring, because if I wanted PA based scoring, Id play stepmania. On multiplayer its fine, but having tier points be based off of a different scoring mechanism isnt as good a indicator of FFR skill

Well think about this for example:

Say if Person A Full Combos Reality with 100 goods and Person B gets 10 goods with a miss or two. With combo scoring, Person A would get more Tier Points than Person B because Person A has a higher combo than Person B. This will not be an accurate way to determine FFR skill because it puts emphasis on combo FIRST before the overall score. With raw scoring, it will clearly show that Person B has more skill than Person A because it puts more emphasis on PA therefore Person B will be awarded more points than Person A. This would be a more accurate way to determine FFR skill and plus, it would discourage mashed Full Combos.

At first, we were going to do it the way you said because of what we have mentioned in one of the FAQ but the majority of the community wants this to be done by raw scoring and so that is what we are going to do. The statement you made saying that raw scoring will not be a good indicator of FFR skill is false. It is a better indicator of skill than combo based scoring and the example I have provided proves that statement.

Recording the best raw score on each song is one of the ways to get rid of combo scoring, but the admins don't want to do it because it would require adding another column to the high score database (= a lot of work).

No, its like. I can FC with 50 goods, or not FC with 40 goods. Its never that big of a deal. I dont understand how some people can go from 200 goods to 20 with a miss.
Requiring a FC for a good score is the only thing that makes this rhythm game unique. Please dont remove it.

Because you change your whole mentality when you play without the fear of missing. I could get amazing PA on FGO's with a couple of misses or I can mash it all and avoid the miss. With raw scoring I would be able to show my true ability on difficult songs.

That doesn't mean it is good, combo scoring is a massively flawed idea and needs to be removed.

I think you are confused emulord, we are not removing combo based scoring from FFR the game, we are just creating an accurate ranking system to determine ones skill by making it based off raw scoring.

Stepmania is more combo-based than accuracy-based. There is a maximum for score points for each of three durations: Normal (100 mill), Long (200 mill) and Marathon (300 mill). Each grade, from Marvelous to Miss, adds or subtracts a percentage from this maximum, according to how many steps it has. Now here comes combo basing: This percentage can increase as you combo the song. For example: Player A has a 50 perfects Blackflag; Player B has 20 perfects, no greats but a single miss in the same score. Player B surely has won, if it's based in dance points. p = Perfect
g = Great
k = O.K.
s = Steps
f = Freezes

Score: (((p+k)x2 + g) ÷ (s+f)x2)x10000000)
Value of Perfect/O.K.: 2 ÷ (s+f)x2
Value of Great: 1 ÷ (s+f)x2

For example: INNOCENCE OF SILENCE Expert (296 steps, 9 freezes)
294 perfects, 2 greats, 9 O.K.s.

Score: (((294+9)x2 + 2) ÷ (296+9)x2)x10000000) = (608/610)x10000000 = 9967213.11 (round down) = 9967213
Perfect/O.K.: 2 ÷ (296+9)x2 = 32786.88
Great: 1 ÷ (296+9)x2 = 16393.44

While this may be true, it's pretty much completely irrelevant. Since there's no score database (Does SMO have one? I'm out of the loop) it's just the players comparing their scores, and they use raw scoring. The players are going to acknowledge that Player A's score is worse than Player B's.
