Possible FFR Music Remix Tournament?

Hey guys. I wanted to bring this idea to people's attention to see how well it's received and to see whether or not it would be feasible to run. By feasible, I'm considering multiple elements, and not just participation rate. The FFR Events Team has been discussing this in the background and I want to bring it to everyone's attention.

First off, if you couldn't tell by the title, the tournament idea in question is a FFR music remixing tournament. Why a remix tournament? There are a few reasons why:

a.) Plagiarism. There likely won't be other remixes we know for the songs that are chosen, and it will ensure that people come up with their own creative ideas in addition to representing the original ideas contained within a song.

b.) Participation. Our concept doesn't require you to change styles to represent a particular song -- if you want to represent a remix of Across Rooftops, you could represent it as an acapella if you'd like (I don't recommend this!). What matters is your interpretation and how you bring about the remix to impact your crowd. In addition to this, remixes allow you to preserve specific parts of the song, which removes a bit of the creative aspect for you. It's a bit easier to remix a song than it is to create an original composition.

c.) Simfiling. With some of our favorite songs being remixed, this gives simfilers the opportunity to chart fresh remixes of their older favorites -- who wouldn't want to see a different take of the same song? Once the competition comes to a close, all of the musicians will be asked if they want their songs to be packaged and released. From there, everyone will have free access to chart any and all of the songs.

There are many other reasons, but I'm only trying to present an idea - not give it away.

What do you guys think? Would enough of you guys be interested in trying something like this out? I know that it takes a lot of effort, but in my opinion, it's an experience worth trying.

Yes.

You won't have to change the style or genre of music you produce, as the judgment style will cater to representation of the song and an original twist on what you make.

EDIT: by the way -- if you're one of the two people that said no, I'd really like to hear your reasoning as to why you disagree with the idea. We're all still open to suggestions.

Is it going to be one song for everyone, or are there going to be multiple groups like the stepcon?

As it stands right now, the way the tournament will work is something like this:

Round X: (parameter)

Where X is a basic parameter like remix any song that's on the FFR engine, and as X gets higher, the parameters get more and more specific, making the tournament tougher on even skilled musicians. I likely won't be sticking to that particular parameter, so it's worth using as an example.

At the start of the tournament, you'll have more freedom because you'll have the opportunity to work within a large group of songs, and near the end, you'll have to work harder because you'll be working under more specific guidelines.

Voting yes even though I have no time for anything it seems... I love the idea. (I was actually thinking of something like this... also a time limited song thread for fun, like a 1 hour limit to make a song)

I'm not so sure you should consider those anything aside from joke votes unless proven otherwise. If they were really against the idea, they most likely would have posted here regarding what they feel is wrong with the event.

Unless if they both actually thought voting no alone would somehow aid us in the creation of better events or something.

Given the two people that gave the vote, yeah. However, it isn't worth calling them "joke" votes unless we can easily see them as such; a person not disclosing why they voted no in this poll isn't exactly a joke, they just might not like the idea of competing at all. I want to hear everyone's side.

Thank you for actually reading the question and confirming that you don't want to compete, because that's what the question is asking.

The reason why the question is worded as such is because I need to be sure that there would be a reasonable amount of participants to make this idea successful. I have a reasonable number in mind, but if that number isn't met, then this will not happen.

Liking the idea is one thing, but being a competitor in it is entirely another.

Great idea. I've tried similar things before with little success but I may give this a whirl for the sake of improvement/fun. Easier to make something original but to remix something, there's a lot to take into consideration I suppose.

Maybe joke was the wrong word, but you understand what I mean.

It is much valuable to hear why they decided to vote no, so we can understand how to potentially refine the event further. Although if they flat out just don't produce music, that is a bit different considering this event wouldn't be catering to them at all. There are plenty of other events in the works, and not everyone will want to participate in all of them due to not being skillful in a certain area that an event may revolve around.

So don't worry if you aren't a music producer, there will be plenty of events spanning many different categories in the future.

Oh, nice. Glad to see that there are still a number of people interested in this.

I'm still debating whether or not to make this event happen, or if I should wait for another time. Either way, it wouldn't happen for quite some time.
