Re: Any vegetarians/vegans on FFR?
First of all, if a vegetarian eats meat after not eating it for a long period of time, they could get extremely sick. And some people are literally disgusted with the idea of eating the flesh of an animal.

Re: Any vegetarians/vegans on FFR?
Yeah both of those are understandable. I respect vegetarians and vegans even though I'm not one, and TBH I should probably eat less meat, but I just hate all the hipsters who do it to be cool or want to fit in with the activist scene.

I guess I didn't make this very clear earlier. The doctor said it wasn't so much that I wasn't getting ENOUGH nutrients, but that my stomach doesn't absorb it very well in the first place, so I need to get LOTS of B12 and iron, which is hard to do on a vegetarian diet. It's an absorption problem for me, so, people without that problem can probably be vegetarian for a lot longer than I was. And let me make it clear: I was healthy, for a long time. When I was nearing unhealthiness, my doctor warned me. So I changed my diet. It's everyone's choice, and there are many healthy vegetarians. It may be harder for some to eat vegetarian or stay healthy on a vegetarian diet, but I wouldn't tell anyone not to be veg cause it's unhealthy. That's just not true. In general I think the healthiest diet is probably one with minimal amounts of meat, not cutting it out completely, but eating a lot less than most people do. You really don't need the types of meat that tend to be fatty like pork and beef.... and for some reason I just don't like those anyway. lol. I dunno why, they just taste gross to me.

Even though you are vegetarian, it doesn't really change anything. Animals are still going to be put in a slaughter house and then packaged up & shipped to your local grocery store. If you don't eat it, the other chunk of the population that does eat meat, will. Or, as fido said, it'll be thrown out. Simple as that. I also don't understand why vegans don't drink milk, either. Milking a cow doesn't ensue their death, lol. |

Re: Any vegetarians/vegans on FFR?
From what my girlfriend told me based on what she has seen through PETA documentaries (which I refuse to watch) milking can be a very painful process for cows. They use suction machines on them. Wome have enough trouble using milk suction pumps after giving birth for a short period of time...these cows go through this day in and day out.
I was recently on a milk farm and the person giving us a tour tried to explain to us that if they didn't milk the cows they would become ill. So I shot back that cows aren't don't naturally produce milk year round....which I probably shouldn't have done because the guy is just trying to do his job. I understand that they are trying to show the public that they are taking care of the cows as best as they can but don't lie to people and fudge the facts. Even though I know all these things I eat cereal and milk every day and I will never give up my cheese.

Re: Any vegetarians/vegans on FFR?
I hate to say it, but I could care less about dealing with wild animal suffering. We can't even stop human suffering. There are hundreds of millions of people suffering right now. I see dealing with that as a much larger priority.
With that said, I'm still all for maintaining and advancing the humane treatment of animals, and I don't care about what somebody eats or doesn't eat. If you don't want to eat meat, that's great. Enjoy. I'm still going to enjoy my beef though. Quote:

Re: Any vegetarians/vegans on FFR?
I've been a vegetarian for almost five years and I went vegan for a month just to see what it was like. It wasn't as bad as I expected but I tried to do it again later and quit after like two weeks.

Re: Any vegetarians/vegans on FFR?
I once announced to my mom that I was going to become a vegan.
Ten minutes later we had dinner. Forgetting I turned vegan the first thing I did was drink my milk. Oh well. But I do admit, I probably would've gone through with it if I was turning vegan for the right reasons and truly believed I was doing the right thing. I decided to turn vegan because I thought it'd help me lose a few pounds. Anyhoo, I personally would have a hard time without eating meat or dairy. I could live off of salad i guess, but after a week I'd probably get sick of them. I don't know. I think you'd have to have a strong belief system in order to go vegan.

Re: Any vegetarians/vegans on FFR?
That sounds like something a rational person would do. Completely. "I want to be vegan! Oh wait, milk isn't vegan? **** that."

What really doesn't make sense is why you would want to even take away one of the main food groups. Carnivores in the wild are constantly killing other animals to survive, so eating meat is NOT unnatural or "wrong" in any way. We might as well just starve if killing animals AND plants is "wrong", because you are killing the plants to eat them. Also, we didn't evolve in an environment with an abundance of food, so being an omnivore expanded the choices humans had for nourishment.

Re: Any vegetarians/vegans on FFR?
I find being a vegan, without actually doing anything to solve the problems you perceive, to be... wasteful?
You don't cut a forest down from the canopy. I'm not exactly in favor of how animals are treated, but I'm not going to stop eating meat to fool myself into thinking I'm doing anything helpful. |
