Default Is it faulty, the model, or normal?

So I got back into Rockband lately. I play the drums for the most part. When I first got it, my Rockband guitar controller didn't work well to the point where I'd misserably pretty quickly (I know I'm not the problem, I play GH3 and know my skill). I found out everyone, that I know of, use the Rockband guitar and they do fine, so I went to play it myself to figure out the problem. I found out my down strum doesn't work well at all. 90% of the time it doesn't register, 10% it hits a second after I strum. The up strum registers everytime and is still 1 second late.

So what do you think is causing this? Keep in mind I bought Rockband the first day it came out. (So I might have the bad model?)

Is it a faulty guitar?
Is it the model I have?
Or is this normal? (iunno)

If it's faulty could I turn it in for a new one btw? Also, I didn't make a poll because I want responses with reasoning or something.

That happened to my roommate earlier this year. I told him to send it in for warranty about 5 months ago and he still hasn't. Long story short the problem isn't on your end it's the guitar.

Send back your guitar. The early models' strumming mechanism moves itself out of alignment over time. The new model remedies that design flaw. Get it.

I got a guitar extremely recently (as a warranty replacement) that has this problem. Got ****ed up less than a week after we got it.

Incredibly annoying.
