Re: Band Camp
I remember someone I know telling me that they were going to, but I honestly can't remember who. As for myself, no.

Re: Band Camp
K?
I know there's plenty of band geeks on this site just waiting to tell me how awesome their show is gonna be this year. Mine is Steely Dan, by the way. Reeling in the Years Rikki Don't Lose That Number Josie Peg I'm disappointed that we don't get to play Do It Again, but I don't think it would really work out well for a marching band.

Re: Band Camp
I was in band in high school, but I don't know the pains of marching because I was in Pit/Front Ensemble.

Re: Band Camp
This is the first time in 5 years I won't be in marching band. I enjoy performing but it's gonna be really nice to go to a football game at 3pm instead of having to wake up at 7 on a Saturday for final rehearsals and **** like that. I can't wait to watch a football game without playing the fight song every three seconds.

Re: Band Camp
Hehehe I started camp today actually. My band's doing a Rolling Stones show. It's pretty tight. We've only seen the music, and we don't start setting up the pictures for the show until Thursday or Monday of next week. But the music's pretty fun so far. And running basics is fun, shouting at the underclassmen is a lot of fun.

Re: Band Camp
Kingdom Hearts (gay)
Habanera (not for football games) Novus (yes) Distorted (should've been the opener) Individually these songs are fine, but I don't like how they're meshed this way for the show. Good thing I transferred out before I left. 2 years ago at band camp two people passed out. One of them had a seizure. And yes, that's what you get for doing marching band in the summer.. on a black top... IN FLORIDA. Last edited by irishknight; 07-29-2009 at 10:46 AM.. |

Re: Band Camp
Our Band Camp starts 2 weeks before school I think. Iirc it's 8am-4pm but we get free lunches
It's annoying having to wake up and realize that you have to go to school to be in the heat for that long, but when you do it's not so bad. |

What instrument(s) did you play? I was section leader Sophomore year and up, so I got stuck with Marimba and Xylophone (which I didn't mind because that's what I'm best at )

Re: Band Camp
Marching was the only thing that kept me away from playing in our concert/marching band. Partly because I used to play football but also because I prefer concert ._. I played jazz for a few years, but I don't think I can this year.

You're gonna be just as tired if not more tired than the people that march. We used to have to take the carts from the band room, up and down a gravel road to the practice field, and drag it through 2-foot high grass. It was terrible. This year though we have no carts. We get to experience the joy of carrying ALL the auxiliary equipment and wheeling concert keyboards which have been literally falling apart for the last 5 years. Being in pit is a ton more stressful than marching, at least at my school. And it doesn't help that neither the director or band give a **** about us. They expect us to learn our parts quicker because we spend more time on it. What they don't know is pretty much every note excluding runs is an interval or chord. We have at least twice as much to memorize, and it's not like we can look at our music and play at the same time. It takes rigorous, mind-numbing repetition. /bitchbitchbitch Yeah. We're also missing parts because we don't have enough people in the front ensemble. Hmm. Oh yeah, right. I play 2- and 4-mallet marimba, basically the whole show. I always play keyboards, because I'm the best I love it. Sooooo soso sos os much. How good are you?
