A toast to killing off who we once were
Hey there, CC, you probably don't know who I am. I joined this site like five years ago and was pretty goddamn intimidated. All the cool people who made stepfiles posted here, and I was totally not cool enough to talk to them. Man, people really cared about stepmania once, what the hell. I remember the way that I really go interested in the forums was through playing TWG, back around game 10 or so, I think. I sucked royally at it, but I met a lot of cool people, and became a lot less of an impressionable moron.
I don't really know where this rant is going. I sort of wanted to write something mildly reflective on my time here for my 8k post, so I'm just winging it. Anyway, it's really kind of sad to look at this place now. It's like, everyone is happy and totally amused by the smallest things that don't even resemble what I think of as intelligent humor. At the same time, I don't really know if it's my place to tell you new kids what is right or wrong, so I should probably just go back into ffya and hide there forever. It's like the new social order here is "**** you have a subscription? You must be awesome" and anyone who buys anyone a subscription is automatically elevated to god-like status. This **** is bananas. Having money or being generous with it doesn't make anyone less of a tard. I would suggest you decide if someone is awesome by if they can put together a coherent post, or demonstrate a modicum of intelligence. Anyway, this place means a lot to me, and has really helped me become a better, or at least more internet-savvy, person. I hope some of you stay around, adapt, and find yourself five years later as different a person as I have. |

i would have to agree with most of this post. i don't agree with the being here five years part because, well, i haven't been here five years.

Mead, you have to take into consideration, a lot of these kids around here are just that....kids. When I first posted on this site at 15, I was pretty intimidated myself. I knew nothing of the "real world" and was pretty content with life just sort of happening. The internet is a crazy thing.
Things change, and I find that I can't relate to a lot of what goes on on this site. But it's been nearly six years, and I have no intention of leaving. Long live FFR. |

The first step to maturity is to realize that things aren't as good as they used to be.
The second step is to realize that things were never actually good. |

Dude...AOL brought retards to the net.
Myspace just connected every single idiot into one massive idiot...of which I am a member of. Also, I hate every single song of mine on FFR. I just thought I'd say that. except for January's Song...but it's still too repetitive. |

That's your only less than mediocre song. I always loved Salad for Your Tuesday when I played.
I'd disagree with Afrombean - ever since Profiles, the forums' standards have plummeted. There was a time when Chit Chat was not painful to read. Unfortunately, it's beyond fixing, so thank god FFYa was made or we'd have to integrate with this somehow. this topic is turning into an ffya party in chit chat whooooo who's bringing the keg

I've only been using the forums for a little over a year, so I can't say anything about the forums, but I've been an MP reg. for nearly 3 years now, and this year is pretty dull compared to the previous 2 years. It's a little depressing honestly, considering MP is the main reason I still come to this site every day. |

Re: A toast to killing off who we once were
When I browse the forums and run across a post such as this, I get just the slightest hint of depression. I wish I could have been here 5 years ago to watch the site grow and to meet the most respectable people. Sadly, I was not. Still, I am slowly turning my posts around into more valuable ones.
I have a lot of respect for people like you on FFR. Keep impressing me. |

Same as funmonkey. I wish I had joined this site looooong ago. I remember when I was just starting to get into SM, I came across this site in 2003 or 2004. I took a quick look at the game and just blew it off to go find more songs for StepMania. It seems like the earlier days of FFR was great, wish I was there to be a part of it.
P.S. FFya sounds amazing.

I kinda wish I knew FFR had a forum when my first account was made in '04 but instead I lurked L&L and NETJ on arch0wl.

Re: A toast to killing off who we once were
Too much alcohol. No more for you.
PS - regardless of whether I'm abrasive all the time, I do put an honest effort into supporting the site and perhaps contributing by being a member of the community, though it's kind of hard to expect people to do that when typically what most who come here are met with is completely witless irritable sarcasm. Regardless of whether I try to make an honest contribution, I'm quite often treated like crap because a lot of you enjoy having somebody you can pretend to have superiority over, rather than an honest conversation. And you wonder why the forums don't have much traffic beyond the idiots who are willing to brave it who are typically brain-damaged by you guys before they start to post.

Re: A toast to killing off who we once were
Compared to now and nearly 5 years ago when I joined, things seem to have gone down.
Back then I never posted in the forums, always looked, never poted. That was because the topics were good and being 13/14 I never felt old enough or clever enough to post in them. Now every topic is so simple to post in unlike the old days. |
