Old Stepfiles
So when new members come to try out the site, we want them to see quality files to get them to come back, right? Most new players begin in the lower difficulty songs, which also have the highest concentration of songs with off-sync steps.
I know this has been suggested many times before, but hear me out. Some of the old songs steps are in dire need of adjustment. There are songs with split jumps and just terribly timed notes that do not match the song. If a newcomer plays a couple of these charts it shows badly on the rest of the stepfiles. The adjusted songs would retain the same number of steps, but simply me in sync and have certain patterns changed to actually make sense. FFR should be a place for quality stepfiles - garbage files reflect poorly on the entire site. |

Re: Old Stepfiles
Hopefully enough people here in post-apocalyptic FFR have the same mindset. Personally I support this idea. I relate it to the avmiss fix in that it doesn't accurately represent the way the game is intended to be played. I remember signing up for an FFR tournament and then when I was forced to play an offsync song I just stopped playing for a long time. It really does make the rest of the site seem not worthwhile, especially after coming from a background of playing other rhythm games.
With all the new players coming in, a growing proportion of the FFR community will have a complete disregard for the historicity of these files in the game, which is the biggest issue at hand. There is also the issue of compensation for those who spent countless hours replaying these offsync songs for an AAA. I'm guessing that this will just depend on how much of the community doesn't care about either. I am part of this population.

Re: Old Stepfiles
No "Nostalga" arguments allowed.
This is because you guys fixed skill token pictures pre ffr death, therefore this argument is no longer valid. I am middle on the idea. |

We can't remove or fix them for some reason, so
tips: legacy genre |

I can't think of anything

Re: Old Stepfiles
Honestly, this would be the best idea. Any files with either blue arrows or a background should be put into a genre like this, except for maybe a few songs in purchased or secret because they have a credit requirement.

Re: Old Stepfiles
Let the new members have the chance to look back at what old FFR songs looked like. They're part of this site's history. There are more quality files than there are crappy looking files. It's the way the old files were ment to be.

On a more serious note, The off-sync files just plain aren't fun to play imo - especially if you're trying to do well on them. One of the aspects that draws people to this game is the competition, statistics, and rankings. Beating high scores, personal and overall, is a great motivator to get better - it's almost in a gamer's DNA =p |

Re: Old Stepfiles
if you place all the old files in the legacy genre, not many low level files will be left outside of it.
solution: finally allow multiple charts per song

Re: Old Stepfiles
I support this. When I ever tried to have my friends play this game, they all went into the Dance genre and their first songs were Synth files and they hated the game after playing those files. We should just have a bunch of people step files that are level 1-4 and that don't blow.

Re: Old Stepfiles
Well, let's figure out what we'd be removing. I figure the list would be something like this:
54 Uber Rave 9 Hyrogashi 03-03-05 48 One Minute Waltz 12 Spazzbite 03-03-05 45 Flight of the Bumblebee 11 Arch0wl 03-03-05 33 SkellyBones 3 Synthlight 03-03-05 32 Dendrite 5 Synthlight 03-03-05 31 Revolutionary Etude 12 Arch0wl 03-03-05 30 Caprice 11 Hyrogashi 03-03-05 29 Moonlight Sonata 3 Nestlekwik 03-03-05 28 Rondo Alla Turca 9 Hyrogashi 03-03-05 25 Resistance 4 Synthlight 03-03-05 24 Stay With Me FFR V1 3 Synthlight 03-03-05 23 HELLBEAT 10 Hyrogashi 03-03-05 21 Salad for Your Tuesday 3 Synthlight 03-03-05 20 Euphoria [Antinomie] 3 Synthlight 03-03-05 16 SuperMario 8bit Eighties Remix 1 Synthlight 03-03-05 13 Legend of Zelda Remix 6 Synthlight 03-03-05 12 Slap Guitar 2 5 Synthlight 03-03-05 11 Too Tight 3 Synthlight 03-03-05 10 Cat Walk 2 4 Synthlight 03-03-05 9 Funk in G 4 Synthlight 03-03-05 8 100 Bar Blackout 3 Synthlight 03-03-05 7 Seattle's Finest (Parental Advisory) 2 Synthlight 03-03-05 6 The Return 4 Synthlight 03-03-05 5 Shag 4 Synthlight 03-03-05 4 136.6 4 Synthlight 03-03-05 3 Story of Snowman and Sunshine Girl 4 Synthlight 03-03-05 2 Get on the Move 3 Synthlight 03-03-05 1 Terror From Beyond 4 Synthlight 03-03-05 By difficulty, this list consistutes: 1: 1 2: 1 3: 8 4: 8 5: 2 6: 1 7: 8: 9: 2 10: 1 11: 3 12: 2 Before these moves, the number of non-legacy files by difficulty will be: 1: 4 2: 21 3: 25 4: 34 5: 37 6: 57 7 and above: plenty After: 1: 3 2: 20 3: 17 4: 26 5: 35 6: 56 7 and above: plenty Contrary to what I thought before, the only categories that really suffer by doing this are 1s and 3s. EDIT: I'd love an 'easy charts for songs already in game' batch. I'd also love a 'files for artists who have 0 songs in FFR' batch, for that matter.

Re: Old Stepfiles
I've been mentioning those batch ideas in the queue thread for close to 2 years now and all I've gotten is "yeah that's a good idea!!"
LET'S ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING about it now
