New + Question
Yea so hi I'm iManiac. Just another one of the many other people who've been playing this game for years but never got involved on the forums. Forgot my old account's user/pass so made this. Hi and all that. Now that that's out of the way, my question....
I'm a typical newb when it comes to FFR. Stubborn one hander using arrow keys. Always played like this, never even bothered to change. The best I've ever done difficulty wise is like up to 7/8 difficulty (before they changed it recently) and with the recent song difficulty change, 30/31. There were a few 9 songs I could do, and a few 32/33s but that was basically my limit. Guess my question is, is it finally time to change hand styles? Particularly to 2 hands? I've already read that "how to get better at FFR" thread and it seems like many people choose 'spread' albeit there are different variations of it, but spread nonetheless. Any extra tips anyone can give me so I can past the above difficulties I mentioned? |

Re: New + Question
Oh and extra question. If I were to switch to 2 hands or index or whatever I switch to, would it be best to start back from the beginning again (difficulty-wise) and work my way back up to where I'm at currently? (see first post).

Re: New + Question
Depends on how good you want to get. 2 hands spread will make you better than you'll ever be with one hand, but one handers do have bragging rights and can flaunt their technique in videos and stuff.
If you wanna get reach your full potential, spread If you want the bragging rights, one hand

Re: New + Question
using two hands well give you a huge boost on harder songs which also depends on what speed you are using too

Re: New + Question
Definitely switch to spread. You use any keys you want (as long as all 4 can register at once for hands.) Like my setup is TG.;. Others are ASKL, or QWOP. Those are all left, down,up,right, in that order. It takes getting used to as I once played three finger on the arrows. But you'll see major improvement faster than you will being stuck at your plateau now.

Re: New + Question
if you continue to play one handed you basically limit yourself to slowly progressing.. the typical spread beginning setup is like ASKL or QWOP .. you will get better faster(usually) and the game feels a lil more rewarding(to me)

Re: New + Question
Just play with what you are comfortable with. If you are good one-handed and you would like to keep that style of play then stick with it. If you are trying to get really competitive at this game then switching to spread will be your best option. If you do switch, you do not necessarily have to use the common ASKL/QWOP setup. You can use whatever you like as long as you are comfortable with it. Overtime though, it will be really good if you can combine index and spread together but I would not worry about that.

Obviously, the downside is as stated above, I think I've found my limit with 1 hand for now at least. Yea I think I might move on to spread then, but seeing as I'm so used to one hand, I don't wanna give that up as well so I'll probably still be practicing that too. |

Re: New + Question
Being comfortable with more than one way of playing is actually a good thing. So yeah, don't stop completely, but focus on doing spread.

The reason why I haven't been able to get past 30-33 is because (or have on some cases but with terrible scores) is because, I have the rhythm down. I know what arrows need to be pressed and when. I see the arrows coming, but I just can't keep up with the beats with my hand. My hand is too slow atm I guess lol. So, I'm going to work on getting good with spread for now and slowly work on getting my hand faster for one hand. Thanks everyone! |
