"Frankenstorm"
The "Frankenstorm" (AKA Hurricane Sandy) is going to be hitting the east coast over the next few days. I'm wondering something, though. Why is no one even talking about it? I live in South Carolina, and I haven't seen anyone posting about it or talking about this storm. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphi...13W5_NL_sm.gif
In this picture, you can see that the South Carolina coast is going to be having tropical storm-like winds on Saturday and Sunday. Even though this Hurricane is expected to be brought down to a category 1, that's not what's special about this storm. No one seems to know that this storm is going to be massive, and it is predicted to bring a lot of damage to the north eastern states. |

Re: "Frankenstorm"
it isn't that demanding of attention. all the action is off coast so no one is in -serious- harm. the east coast is just getting winds and rain.
EDIT: You have a watch for Tropical Storm. Islands off of Florida are getting nailed while Florida has a Tropical Storm warning. It's really nothing different than tornado warnings/watches and funnel clouds going around. |

edit: Also, this storm is heading to be ON coast. Just because the coast is going to be seeing the most damage doesn't mean it's no big deal. This storm is hitting the most populated places in USA. Last edited by ~kitty~; 10-26-2012 at 12:31 PM.. |

Kitty is right, I'm surprised a lot of people aren't giving this more attention. The meteorologists on some of the major news networks are going batshit insane because they say that they can't accurately track the storm, and that regardless of what happens the east coast is going to get absolutely hammered.

Re: "Frankenstorm"
I've seen a lot of postings and stuff about it, but I'm also from NJ so I have a lot of friends/family in NJ. That's one of the areas that will be getting hit the hardest.

Re: "Frankenstorm"
North New Jersey and the New York City areas are supposed to be hit the hardest. What's really happening is 3 different things are combining into one huge storm (hence why it has a special name such as "Frankenstorm"). It's the combination of Hurricane Sandy, a cold front from the north, and another winter-like storm coming from the west (I had read that from another article, but couldn't find that specific one). http://gma.yahoo.com/hurricane-sandy...opstories.html There's a video there that explains it better.

Re: "Frankenstorm"
When I heard about Hurricane Sandy coming about (note: before the name "Frankenstorm" was coined), I started laughing and wondering about the possibility of the cold front passing through and wreaking havoc in addition to the amount of moisture coming by. I wasn't aware until AFTER the name was given that there was a cold front dropping from the arctic at the same time, haha.
There's an eastern-moving cold front, a southern moving cold-front (creating a convergence of sorts), and then hurricane Sandy moving westward to the coastline. This could be a pretty crazy storm, haha. |

Re: "Frankenstorm"
Yup, northern LI where I live has a pretty good chance of being locally evacuated.

What the hell is this map; I'm laughing just looking at how ridiculous the East Coast looks:
Such terrible timing for Sandy to come in, haha |

Re: "Frankenstorm"
I just heard that the span of the dangerous winds of this storm is going to reach up to 800 miles across. That's insane.

Re: "Frankenstorm"
Wind speed? It's supposed to go up to 80mph, then go down to 75mph when it starts heading westward to the coast.
edit: Also, regarding your earlier post, I know there's a name for two of the three storms. One obviously is Hurricane, the other is called a Nor'easter. |
