Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
technically, if the game is time based instead of frame based, then all files would have to be reconverted (which means frame placements will be changing on a ton of files)

Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
With mines and holds, I think it would tie into another idea of mine.
I think we should only have mines and holds if they're activated when, say, you're in a tournament. Maybe once you enter a tournament (or just whenever any tournament in general picks a song) and a song is picked, mines and holds would be turned on.

Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
Yo, Velocity and Legacy engines will be left as they are. Files, scoreboards, and all.
This thread has nothing to do with them in the slightest. (As I said in the first post!)

I think FFR is unique because of its song selection, its noteskin style, the concept of combos and boos, etc. I am stunned that people want to preserve the FFR image by maintaining the characteristics that have so far been excluded from the game. I honestly think this is handicapping the progress of the game. There are many other characteristics to celebrate that is unique to FFR (see above); I don't see why you should celebrate the LACK of features that could possibly make FFR better. -------- My second concern is that some people view potential new features such as marvelous accuracy, mines, etc. as those which would affect their gameplay. This is unfortunate, because I think at least some people wouldn't mind if they actually considered that these additions could be seen as alternatives that do NOT affect traditional gameplay. For example: some people have said that they are against marvelous accuracy because it would affect the scoreboard, and they have trouble hitting notes on time anyhow. Well, did you consider that the marvelous accuracy is just an additional measure to show your accuracy without affecting your score? A AAA is still obtained in the same way; marvelous timing won't affect your score. If holds and mines were an option, people might be more open to it. Mines could be an optional feature that does not blast your scoring away if you want. Same with holds, although I think holds are a more fundamental aspect of the game than mines are. My main point is that FFR can be enriched without affecting traditional gameplay that many people enjoy, by having alternative features as either separate entities or not counting within the scoring system. I'd like to acknowledge though that Zageron has taken at least some of this into account: Quote:
Features can be added without sacrificing the old ways. Pretty much...there's a ton of conservative thoughts around here. FFR won't be killed lol. Last edited by bmah; 07-30-2011 at 09:02 PM.. |

Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
So I'm just another stubborn fool who likes FFR as it is and doesn't care for some of this expansion. But it seems like this whole new engine won't even be FFR anymore or anything, so whatever. Won't vote in the poll because I won't be able to think of anything to say that matters.
If the new engine adds freezes and whatever, I won't bother with it. I've been completely demotivated from trying to make files for SM, and ... yeah. Going to go hide in my corner and not say anything more. |

Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
I would like mines and holds because they would make for some interesting stepfiles and difficulties in FFR.

When BW is out, new batches will open for the new engine.
We're going to use some "high quality files" from the old engine too (not all files, of course). Last edited by jimerax; 07-30-2011 at 11:47 PM.. |

Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
only thing i can't see working right with flash is mines, everything else seems perfectly doable
6key would be cool since kbo is kinda dead now. don't see any problem with having level ranks for 6key files the same way they are with 4key files

Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
My votes were:
Perf/Good/Average/Miss/Boo - I'd only support Marv if it was purely for statistical purposes and didn't affect scores. Could help with tournaments, I guess. Single Difficulty Per Song - Why add more and more? You have the rare [Heavy], [Oni], etc. charts for that. One of the things that sets FFR ahead of ThirdStyle is that you only have to play one chart of a terrible song if you don't like it; you have to AAA it once. Not 3 times on 3 different charts. 4 Arrows Only - Solo is fun and everything, but it'd just be more confusing for your ranks and everything. I'd support Solo if it was an optional "bit on the side", with no contribution to level ranks and was just used for fun. 2 or MOAR players - The more the merrier, SMO handled it really well, you guys should be able to as well. Holds - I don't see the problems with holds, a lot of files on FFR just have blank spaces because you can't use holds. Don't make them contribute to score, just have them as an optional visual effect as has been mentioned.

Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
i am strongly in favor of adding marv, maybe as something you could toggle on or off. I have had many people tell me it will help me to pass 10 and above (im currently stuck on 9's), but when i download stepmania it doesnt work, it would be nice to be able to get the same skill boost from a game i already know and love instead of reverting to the competition.

Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
Yea, maybe since we could have Public/Token/Solo Levelranks, but only Public affected the AAA and FC bars.

Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
keep in mind not everyone on FFR is used to..
6 key (solo) mines holds basically anything that's not ffr.. i say we stick to the old but improve what we have at the moment this includes.. multiple difficulties for the same song (new submissions i guess) 4 key (stick to this, much simpler) no holds/mines (i guess that's why ffr's different from SM) 2+ people multiplayer (why not?) but then again.. i don't even see 6+ people in multiplayer most of the time.. it's hard to find even 1 person to play against most of the time :P but yeah having played both SM/FFR, i feel like FFR should stay FFR (bye solo / mines / holds) and SM should stay SM (this is where i play solo / mines / holds / dumps ) |

Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
Possibly, for the 2< multiplayer, we could have co-op files. You know how in DDR/ect. they have a "couples" option or somesht, where they have 2 different stepped files and two people play them both for a total score?
Well, I was thinking that we could have that for bw. And in multiplayer, you would have one team against another: 2 vs 2, total of 4 players playing. So now players would have to work together to achieve a rank on the co-op leader board. Possibly creating a new level of sociability for FFR. Srry for double post

Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
Honestly, I do not care what you guys do. As long as it does not interfere with FFR traditional play then I'm down with anything reasonable added into the engine.

Re: BlackWebb Wishlist [Vote Now!]
This 100% - even if holds/mines don't count toward scoring, it goes away from the traditional FFR.
