Thumb twitches while playing?
I play spread. I use AS and L;. This is perfect for me, however, my left thumb sometimes twitches while playing a song and it hits the Alt key which causes me to miss the next note(s). Has this ever happened to anyone? How do I stop my thumb from twitching?
Thanks. |

Re: Thumb twitches while playing?
I never had an experience where my thumb twitches o_O!?
Your placement of keys might be just the thing. It might not be "perfect" for you, but you can try placing your hands closer. My theory may be 99% incorrect but.. I think it has something to do with the brain. Your hands are too far from each other? |

Re: Thumb twitches while playing?
I play split so my right hand gets bored and decides it wants to twitch because only using one finger bores my hand ;_;

Re: Thumb twitches while playing?
My thumbs get super stiff and stick out funny, thus making my hands hurt faster...
You might be better off moving your left hand over a few keys or up a row.

Re: Thumb twitches while playing?
It's not really something that can be helped, it's because of hand placement or maybe even just you.
Like when im playing songs it gets really annoying because my eyes RANDOMLY get dry and force me to blink at the WORST times causing me to get a Good/Avg, or even worse miss. This ONLY happens when I play FFR too which sucks, more because you're too focused on not messing up I guess :P Some people have their own things that mess them up, and that's mine.

No. I use the same exact key setup as you, and I've never run across that problem.

Re: Thumb twitches while playing?
My thumbs don't twitch but either they stick out as far as they bend backwards, (which is pretty far somehow; from the joint that lines up with your knuckles it almost bends 90 degrees and it looks creepy as ****; I remember long ago I posted a vid here and that's what everyone was saying lol) or they grab onto the bottom edge of the keyboard.
I play ZX Up Right on regular keyboard but AS;' on laptop; normal keyboard I have my left hand often hit the alt/windows key though, lose control every once in awhile and my index finger slips. =/

Re: Thumb twitches while playing?
You must have really tiny hands or something cause my thumbs rest perfectly below my keyboard when I tried your spread.

Re: Thumb twitches while playing?
Yeah I had a BFC Monster drink yesterday...probably wasn't the best idea. And yes, I do have tiny hands unfortunately for my age. I'm hoping in the next year or two there will be a growth spurt. I'll also experiment with moving my hands a little closer anyway, it doesn't hurt.
Thanks all for your suggestions and input, much appreciated. |

Re: Thumb twitches while playing?
My pinkies used to stick out then I trained them to stay by playing really easy songs and sticking my pinkies on a key. Now I can play longre songs

Re: Thumb twitches while playing?
Download AutoHotkey. Make a script that contains:
Alt:: This will disable the Alt key while you have the script running. I use this to disable the windows key, F1-F12, etc. |

Re: Thumb twitches while playing?
At one point I used to fidget my fingers a lot and this would obviously impede on my playing. Also at one point I had the occasional thumb twitching. I think this was due to me being more conscious of my finger placement for some reason. Normally when you don't think about anything, you'll play just fine. But sometimes if you happen to be aware of your finger position, you'll perceive your thumb as being in a weird position (and perhaps it is), and then you'll just mess up more easily. That's just my experience.
