Re: League of Legends
The only problem with so-called "ELO Hell" is that you have to play wrong to get out of it, then you have to kinda re-learn the game at higher ELO when your teammates are actually not all trolling anymore.
Basically tanky snowball carries and completely ignore your team, because assume they're all retarded and just be pleasantly surprised if they do something competent.

Re: League of Legends
So I played a match last night as jungle Veigar, definitely one of the stupidest jungles to ever attempt
The only thing that was decent about it was that he could gank well with the stun ring |

Re: League of Legends
Somebody's been watching Saintvicious. He likes to jungle Veigar, so when people watch him they think they can do it too.

so what do you do when your teammates are four other tanky snowball carries who think their elos are 2000 points lower than they should be and start every game by typing "/ignore all"

Re: League of Legends
That is true, I haven't had that many games yet where I was able to play mid or solo. Because I'd be told that they're duo queueing with someone else who is a jungler. I've been stuck with tank or support a majority of the time, because they all want to be an hero and carry the game

Re: League of Legends
So we decided to do this:
Cho was a solo queue that decided to do this with us, Skarner decided to go ghost/surge to get some damage. We jungle invaded at level 1 and scared them off. We stole golems, red, and wraiths, and preceded to 5 man gank top talon for first blood. Then, they rolled us for 10 minutes. After we got items, they couldn't do shit since we moved as a 5 man group. We'd send one person out as bait, and they'd run into the rest of us in a bush.

Still looking for people to play with. I'm trying to improve. I don't play crazy amounts due to school, but I try to get a few games in now and then

Re: League of Legends
It's not playing wrong. It's adapting your strategy to win. In order to play optimally, you need to constantly be evaluating risk/reward for each decision/strategy you have. Regardless of what ELO you're in, you're doing this same thing to win. The tips mentioned are simply generalizations for the patterns that occur in these games to help you, but these tips alone will not help you directly win every game.

Re: League of Legends
LoL reminds me of poker in a lot of ways.
It's a game of luck in that you can't control all of the variables in the game. Some of them are random and out of your hands. In the case of LoL, it's primarily the people you're matched with. However, it's a game of skill in that you can control all of the actions you decide to make. As such, your actions should revolve around maximizing your chances of winning based on the information you have. Even if you play optimally, you won't always win. There's nothing you can do about that. But if you're maximizing your chances of winning and playing optimally, you'll win more than you lose, and your ELO will slowly climb. The reason being, if you play a statistically large enough sample of games, and the matchmaking system is doing it's job, the average strength of your opponents and your team mates relative to your ELO will be the same. That is, luck becomes a relatively insignificant factor, and the only remaining variable influencing your win ratio is your personal performance. If you sit around and chalk it all up to luck, you won't get anywhere. Sure, variance happens. I lost 10 dominion games in a row a few weeks ago, mostly due to bad luck. I'm like, 65-40 now though. Bullshit that was happening to me constantly started happening to the other team, and things evened out. I found this fun little calculator recently: http://lolcave.com/ec/ Seems reasonable, assuming you've played a good chunk of games and your ELO isn't unusually high or unusually low. 1580 SR and 1590 Dom, but I really need to play some more SR. Studying for finals right now is killing me though and hour long games are just...unacceptable >_>

Re: League of Legends
Based entirely off of normal games (according to that calculator) I'm at 1701 elo. Getting leavers / afk'ers 5 games in a row in ranked games (at the cost of 50 elo a pop) really murdered my elo, and I've just about given up on ranked matches. I still enjoy my normal drafts.
For the record, I don't think I'm worth 1700, at least in my own eyes. 1500s or so maybe? |

Re: League of Legends
For any karthus players, what item builds have you noticed to work?
So far I've been starting with sapphire+2 hp pots, then basic boots/tear of the goddess, CDR boots, archangel, deathcap, then lichbane or zhonya's depending on enemy team, and then deathfire grasp if I ever get there. Does that seem decent? Also, any good tips? I'm liking him as a character so far, but not sure how he plays against more experienced players (only lv16 atm) |
