What about owning a video of rape of an adult? What if it's a gruesome rape?

It's not just about what's legal or not I suppose, in terms of right and wrong, but very much about what laws are actually being enforced. There's a noted effort of cracking down on pedophiles. Is there anything close to a similar system to track down distributors of other disturbing pornography? I don't really know the reality of law enforcement regarding this, but if I were to have a stash of rape vids or even snuff I wouldn't be worried about being sent to jail.

I think you are missing the point of hypotheticals. We are talking about whether or not it would be illegal to have. No, I don't think it makes sense for them to let you keep it, but does that mean it is illegal to have if it isn't new evidence?

There are thousands of videos of people dieing floating around the internet. There wouldn't be much difference between that and this anymore.

The police would want it for evidence. If it were after the fact and they released it to public, and you still wanted it, I don't see why not. However, the difference between wanting it because you want to do weird perverse things with it, opposed to educational things would have to come into question.

...that isn't really to say that you can use pedophilia for education. (if we're comparing rape to murder)

Furthermore, the question of whether or not it should be illegal to keep it, I guess I would have to say it probably shouldn't be illegal. Legit question: is there a fetish which involves killing people or watching people die? Are people being killed to fuel this fetish? Would possession of these videos lead to more people dying?

I doubt it.

There actually is a Russia police case that happened recently where a man hired someone to murder and eat him because that was his fetish.

Having a damn hard time finding where that was posted, though. I think my friend who posted that took it down off of FB
