Anyway, in response to 3lijah. Being Atheist doesn't depress me because "oh noez there's nothing after this". Most Atheists, including myself, use this to make every second of our life as enjoyable as possible and more valuable. Christians don't seem to live their life nearly as much. They spend a huge amount of time praying and going to church. They don't have as much fun because it could be a "sin". It seems as if they think of this life as their time to worship their way into becoming good enough to go to heaven.

I personally prefer to live the life I KNOW exists, than to hope I will go to an unrealistic place that isn't guaranteed. I also wouldn't worship someone that has the power to fix every problem in the world, yet sits back to let people suffer, starve, get raped, etc.

I'm fully confident that kommiser understands that our date-time system is developed from the time it takes to orbit the sun.

Also, our numeral years have nothing to do with the position of the Earth that's orbiting the sun. 2012 is a measurement based on the human illusion, and the months are based on the moon, but the numerals for them are an illusion as well, though the difference between day and night, and a full moon and so on are not illusions, they are not what is being looked at. It's the sequence of the man-made numbers.

I am not an atheist but I tend to enjoy every bit of my life as much as you do. Maybe not being highly religious helps make living life easier for us. I am Agnostic, but I don't worship any supreme being in the manner similar to highly religious Christians. I'm not saying that they should deter God from their lives; it's a part of their life and we have to respect that.

EDIT: If you want my personal opinion on May 21, 2011, I find it complete nonsense. But I don't find strong believers to be "crazy" for what they believe. However, Christians who are forcing others to believe what they believe are the "crazies" in my opinion.

I know a Christian who believes there's a God and makes a really strong argument on why he thinks God exists, but he doesn't believe in these number theories, so I think the people on this site who think people who believe in a God have to be _____ or _____ in terms of intelligence, I think they're speaking out of ignorance and possibly arrogantly as well.

Exactly, you can't measure intelligence with what you believe; you can only measure it with what you know. When the topic of religion arises, intelligence should be independent of beliefs. It makes sense because religion is as limited as science is, so essentially there is no right answer. It's all based on what we believe.

It's kind of funny to think that the decimal system is used just because people have 10 fingers. I see what you are saying that the actual numbers and month-week dates aren't brought about by the earth taking a year to orbit the sun.

Just curious, but does anyone know why the length of a second is what it is? I know they use some kind of resonating crystal to measure the exact length of what we call a second. But why did we choose this exact length?

1 second = the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the cesium 133 atom (from Wiki)

Early definitions of the second were based on the apparent motion of the sun around the earth.[2] The solar day was divided into 24 hours, each of which contained 60 minutes of 60 seconds each, so the second was 1⁄86 400 of the mean solar day.
This was more of what I was looking for. Although now that I read it, it seems very obvious. -_-;

Although now I want to know why 24 and 60.

To all those people that disagree and say this is bs, What are you going to tell yourself when millions of people (christians) suddenly disappear from the earth? Are you going to lie to yourself to make whatever you believe sound right?

Or are you going to realize how foolish you have been for not opening yours eyes sooner, to the Actual truth?
Because If I were to be left behind like a lot of you people will at this rate, Well That would be the ultimate facepalm.

One that you don't recover from. Since no vast amount of logical and reasoning will get you out of the hell your going to be living in.
Two issues here:

1. I can just as easily flip this around on you.

What are you going to tell yourself when Jesus never returns, Christians are never saved, and you eventually die, now ceasing to exist and now and for the rest of eternity infinitely ignorant about the dumb shit you believed in when you were alive?

Or a more fun version: What are you going to tell yourself when millions of people (christians) get left on earth for believing in dumb shit? No vast amount of illogical reasoning will get you off earth and into the elite sky club of the atheists where we have disco parties with God and engage in science trivia! The bible is actually a test, put onto earth by God to keep gullible and illogical minds from ever entering his glorious kingdom!

See? Wasn't that fun? Don't complain about bashing when you post bigoted garbage like this.

2. The end of the world has been hypothesized thousands of times during human history. As history shows us, humans have been wrong every time.

Why on earth would it be any different this time, when it's clear that humans have absolutely no way of predicting the end of the world, and instead just love to engage in theory-apocalypsing to scare people.
