Re: 8th Official FFR Tournament
Okay so I'm going to lay this out here to try to prevent further PMs from people who don't really understand how this goes.
*Yes we still need to finish D1 and D2 Anyway, this is more so for the people who are newer here and don't really seem to understand the workings of most of these tournaments and placement stuff etc. Number of AAA's, Tier Points, FC's are not deciding factors in someone's placement. Individual scores are. Regardless if one person in the division has one level 60 AAA with someone that has 10 level 60's AAA'd. They both still have the capability to achieve AAA's on that level of difficulty. Tier points and FCs are both obtainable by mashing (to an extent with tier points) and really have no effect on ones placement because it doesn't really demonstrate skill. Basically, we don't go look at someone's count in these things for placement because they don't really determine one's skill. There's also players that are able to achieve really good scores but don't "AAA hunt" (Basically they don't bother getting the AAA's on certain stuff even though they have the capability) There are people who are going to be at the top and bottom of divisions. There's obviously no way of preventing this unless we added a ton of divisions, which would completely defeat the purpose of a competition. We have to place people based on their potential even if this means they're up against people who are better. Take me for example, I'm currently in D5 with mostly D4 scores, but because recently I was able to pull 8/2/5/6 on Einstein Rosen Bridge I have the ~potential~ to do well on files in the FGO area regardless as to whether or not I have done so consistently. Just like how there are people who have Challenging SDGs and are moved into D3 because they can't be left in a division where people are just breaking into the Very Difficult area. A score does not have to be an FC to be considered. If you can pull 1/0/1/0 on a song you're more than likely capable of AAAing it even if it is a pain in the butt lol. We all have our scores where we get decent PA but we can't hold on to that FC. These are scores we're going to look at while placing people in the tournament as well. A single score does not determine someone's placement. I'm going to use YOSHl as the example here. He managed to AAA AIM Anthem while still only having D2 scores. He was unable to participate in any tournaments really because everyone put him in D5 based only on that score. A single score can be a fluke, or it could just be something that plays to their strengths. I was in D4 last tournament with Lawn Wake I AAA'd because otherwise I had no D5 scores. I didn't win either, finally placed top 8 but no higher than that. I believe I had it in the tournament before that as well and placed somewhere in the 20th place area. It's not easy to explain all the exact workings in placements. Is it flawless? Of course not, but we have to do our best to match people as best we can based on their potential to score on these levels of difficulty. Especially now being a raw scoring tournament the dynamics have changed. Random fun personal note, when I started becoming really active in '09 I joined the 5th official tournament. I had no level 6 AAA's and was stuck in D2 for that tournament. I was like :O because every user tournament I played I was always put in D1. But I pushed myself (I played one song almost 1000 times to pass the round) and I made it to 13th place before my computer crapped out on me haha. My power cable failed to my laptop right as the new round started and I didn't receive the new one until the round ended. I managed to slip in a few plays before my battery gave out and came to find I had been beaten by like a boo, so I know I could have gone further had it not been for that. I bring up that story because underdog or not, if you want it enough you can make it further than you'd expect. You just have to be willing to fight for it. If you're just going to count yourself out then yeah chances are you're not going to get anywhere. There was something else I was going to note with placements and I completely forgot what it was now haha. If I remember I'll add it. I'm not writing this up to discourage people from coming to us about placements I just want people to understand so they can better see how these things are approached and can report discrepancies more accurately. Hopefully this gives at least a little insight into the workings.

/facepalm Sorry but I just wrote out a huge thing as to what deciding factors are. I've never ever placed people based on a single score.

Re: 8th Official FFR Tournament
For now I'm not going to be answering any PMs for a little bit because I absolutely have to get going on finalizing D1 and D2 at this point. As well as getting the songs up and ready for tonight. I will get back to answering them ASAP.

0 also had past scores with misses on them on mid FGOs (I Hate the 80s, for example). I'm well aware of what 0 can do; he's been placed in D6 in the past and has no reason to be moved at all.

Re: 8th Official FFR Tournament
If these aren't placement issues, why are they being mentioned? There's really no reason to mention that he doesn't have Oni and is in D6 considering you already know that he belongs there.

Re: 8th Official FFR Tournament
Well my initial concern was being bumped to D5 if I flukerunned Oni today, which I can see as quite possible if I get back into the FFRGroove~

Re: 8th Official FFR Tournament
I guess I just can't post for the sake of posting, apologies (although you really should've known I wasn't arguing 0's placement, AJ)
cedolad's well aware he belongs in D5 (and has intentions of placing very well) and I don't see you saying anything to him But nvm, I'll stop I suppose |

We're just chit-chatting here AJ, no need to worry about us, sorry if I stepped on some toes.

Re: 8th Official FFR Tournament
I'm not upset about the chit-chat itself, but it's moreso about the fact that the thread is getting cluttered up over something that really doesn't matter, lol. Yeah, I know 0 is in D6 without Oni, and I know that you're in D5 without Oni, cedolad. It all goes down to the fact that your scores say everything.
