Last time my puzzle thread got pretty interesting, but then by round 3 everyone dropped out (partially because the questions were too hard, me thinks XD).

I don't have any riddles right now. People that like number problems might like this. You don't have to answer it but cookies to someone that can get it right.

196 (25) 324
325 ( ) 137

*cookies*

Sure, why not.

It's not an easy question.

Here are a bunch more number questions. Cookies to those that solve them, but if someone has more good 'riddles' rather than number puzzles go ahead and post them. I know these are kind of off topic but they can be fun ;p

1) Hard

4 9 20
8 5 14
10 3 ?

2) Medium

6 8 10 11 14 14 ?

good ol sequences

3) Extreme

Using only two 2's and any combination of mathematical signs, symbols and functions can you make 5?

4) Extreme

Several straight line segments are drawn on a plane surface in such a way that their intersecting lines form 1,597 areas that are not further subdivided. What is the minimum number of line segments that must be drawn to form the described pattern?

5) Hard

2 (25) 34
465 (63) 681
5768 ( ) 5893

I added the numbers, from both sides of the parenthesis.

Hmm.

1) Is it 11?

2) i think is 18, since you count by 4s from 6, and by 3s from 8.

3)i'm not completely sure if i did it correctly, but i got 5 by doing the following:
Sqrt((.2)^-2)

4) :/

5) Working on it

I think (sqrt(.2))^-2 works.

5) The answer is 53.

34-2=32=2^5 (25)
681-465=216=6^3 (63)
5893-5768=125=5^3 (53)

I guess i'll post one:

Once upon a time, and old lady went to sell her vast quantity of eggs at the local market.

When asked how many she had, she replied:

Son, I can't count past 100 but I know that.

If you divide the number of eggs by 2 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 3 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 4 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 5 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 6 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 7 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 8 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 9 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 10 there will be one egg left.

Finally. If you divide the Number of eggs by 11 there will be NO EGGS left!

How many eggs did the old lady have?

Most of the trickery there comes from the wording of the puzzle. I was thinking 'that can't be done if you're just dividing once and taking the remainder>_>' which the question sort of implies.

But I'm going to assume by this you mean 'can go into it x number of times to leave 1 egg'...ex; 25 - 2 goes in 12 times and leaves 1, which satisfies the first constraint.

Thus the answer is (2x3x4x5x6x7x8x9x10)+1, or 3628801

I'm going to assume you can get a lower number of eggs...though the question doesn't ask for it.

It would be hard to believe she has 3.6 million eggs though XD

(if he does nothing, spyke will be toast after at most 10 hours, since 10 miles / 1 mph = 10 hours)

Assume he knows basic survival skills, and that he doesn't want to die, i.e. the answer is not "Let him go drown to death so he won't burn to death"

Nobody else has heard this one before?

He starts his own fire somewhere in the island at a point C between A and B. He waits in the area between A and C. By the time the fire at A reaches C, his own fire would have burnt down the area between C and B, where he would be safe.

The next answer is (2^3x3^2x5x7)+1, or 2521

Still a ton of eggs.

And yes, that answer for my riddle is correct.

Actually, you answered your own riddle incorrectly XD

That does not satisfy the last constraint...

Upon further analysis and neglect of studying biology, using factoring the correct minimalist answer should be 25,201.

You screwed up somewhere ;p

Here's a simpler one but I didn't figure it out when it was told to me:

Greater than god, more evil than the devil, is needed by the poor, and is not by the rich - If you eat it, you will die

What is it?
a welfare check form the government?

Someone should be able to solve it. It only took me a few minutes.

It's quite clever. Just requires a bit of 'outside the box' thinking to find a quick way to solve it.
