This is exactly how I feel. I was pretty damn good with Pikachu and used him a lot. First time I played Melee I got pissed off really badly. I haven't played Pikachu to this day, haha.

Roy and Marth are probably the most different of the "palette swap" characters.

Not only is Marth obscenely faster, but the fact that his sword is better at the tip makes him so much more useful in combos. They play incredibly differently.

So what if Roy's parry is stronger or he's more powerful in general? If power meant anything in this game, Bowser wouldn't be a ****ty character. Speed rules SSBM.

Also, regarding Pikachu, I never played him all that seriously in either game, but I really didn't notice any nerfing of him at all. I've watched pros play him in SSB and SSBM and I don't see a very distinct difference. It's not like they removed his charging move (coughKirbycough), or anything, so how is he so much worse?

In SSB, Pikachu's aerial up+A spiked in a certain way so that a dash-->jump-->up+A would put the foe on the same trajectory that Pikachu fell at, so that you could force them towards the pit until the ledge was out of their recovery range, then just jump-->Quick Attack back to the stage. Only someone with better recovery than Pikachu could make it back, and only with a low damage percentage. It doesn't do that anymore. His smashes aren't as good as before, either. I think he's lighter, too. Can't really remember.

Marth all the way!

Marth and Roy may have similar attacks, but they are -very- different. Marth's sword does the most damage at the tip, Roy's at the middle. Marth is "more floaty," and has greater range. Plus probably the second best wavedash in the game (next to Luigi, the damn green guy can cover Final Destination in 2 good wavedashes).

I've kinda quit on playing though. I've gotten to the point where I can 4 stock a Lv9 CPU in under 1:45, and 3/4 stock a Lv9 with a handicap of 5 and my handicap at 3 in under 3:00 >.>

Make the level 9 handicap 9 PCU Fox.

Make yourself Dr. Mario with 1 handicap.

Walk to the edge, face your enemy. Fox runs over, you grab, throw him back, cape him off. Four times.

You can easily get under 1:45 because the computers aren't too bright. It doesn't require any sort of skill to do it, either.

I play SSBM nonstop. If anyone wants a challenge try this:
Cruel Melee- 75 kills- Pichu
This is one of the hardest things to accomplish, but once you do you will feel DAMN GOOD!!
The trick to it is LOTS OF JUMPING, you must save your electric attacks for the smashes (cause pichu hurts itself) and stick with your B-> charge and your A<- jump attack. DODGE ALL OF THEIR moves, and with lots of practice, and mastering the "on impact" handstand/roll, you will eventually get it.
Another REAL challenge is:
All Star Mode- Very Hard- 3 Lives- Gannondorf
Good luck, Gannondorf is a slow but steady Character. Once you master his good combos, you will be fine.

DAMN haha it took me a while to get 5 kills in cruel melee with my favorite characters

Ness

I don't really like ness but i loved that game earthbound so i am immediately attracted to him...sexually.

People, Marth is WAY over rated.
In all of the people I have played, not one person has so much as come close to beating me with marth. Marth just has no distance. Some one using Samus, Ness, or even Young Link could win. Now not to diss Marth, notice how I did not put Adult Link in there. He is just too slow and his move release time is WAY too slow, not to mention that after almost everysingle one of his moves, there is a recover time or pause time (call it what you will). Marth is a great character for hand to hand, but if someone with really good evade, attack, combo, evade tactic is thrown in, he stands no chance.

Marth has a sword. That's much more distance than most characters. His game is based on distance. It's easy to keep people away with good pokes. It's easy to make good use of his counter, as well. He's not exactly difficult to learn, either.

Also, all this Wii talk makes me sad that I don't have one. I'll have it before SSBB is out, though.

I generally play with Marth, Pikachu, Yoshi (No love?), and Fox. I can't play with the slower characters at all... I just can't do it. I don't know why, but it seems like not many people prefer to use Yoshi.

Pichu and Peach. I'm a defensive player and usually I just test my opponent's patience. They make a stupid move, BAM, it's over pretty much. Pichu is very good if you know how to use him well just because of his speed and his smash. Peach is amazing with her recovery and counters. I dunno.. I'm not an agressive player so it works for me.

I've seen too many tier listings. It's too inconsistent for my taste. Although the 'RiTT' project might be on to something. Isn't making a lot of progress though.

I agree with Magie, Falco is just slightly slower than fox, and I would Kick ANYONES ass using Shiek. Shiek is DEFINITELY in the top.
