Re: Post your desktop thread ~5th style~
I still fail to see the necessity of more than five icons.
Or a distracting wallpaper. Or complete disorganization. Right now I have four. Wow, one more than normally! I have a folder that is too large to move in with my other stuff on the hard drive that holds it all and I don't want to forget about it, so that is there. I also have a folder full of books I need to read. Then My Computer and Recycle Bin. I don't get it. It's so easy. ps this isn't to stutter's but still white at 4:00AM is ouch. pps I increased the resolution on my main monitor and flipped the locations of the monitors. 1600x1200 is awesome. ~Squeek Last edited by Squeek; 07-4-2006 at 06:00 PM.. |

Re: Post your desktop thread ~5th style~
My old desktop did not utilize a single icon at all, but rather I stuck every program, every odd-ended shortcut, and all my music folders into my start menu. 8)
It was THE BOMB. Would dig up an SS somewhere but **** that.

I have about 100 icons on my desktop. I save things there when people send me stuff and forget to move it. Once a month or so I will sort it. |

Granted, every so often I will have a few MP3s I've been sent on my desktop and I keep them there because I want to listen to them more. Then I move them and add them to my playlist. This process lasts about a week. I bet your start menus are as ugly as your desktops. Mine is four folders. Accessories, Games, Useful Junk, and Junk. We all know what Accessories does. Games has all of the shortcuts to all the games on my computer and another folder in it for the Microsoft games (I deleted the Internet spades and suchnot. I use the other ones pretty often). Junk has shortcuts to programs I rarely use. Maybe twice a year. Useful Junk has shortcuts to programs I use about every two months (Antispyware, etc). No folder has more than ten things in it. That's it. My quicklaunch has no copies of any of the programs in those folders. I use the programs in my quicklaunch at least once a week. Most of them get used daily. The three showing are used about 20 times a day. See, I get to know what I do and what I don't do and organize as such. I know that I hate having to minimize everything to get to a program I want to open, and I know that having too much crap on the desktop will make me lose time when I want to use something. I keep all of my saved things (songs, anime, etc) in one folder on a hard drive where that folder is the only thing in existance, then branch that into categories (songs, anime, etc). That folder is on the opposite side of the quicklaunch. I can open it without having to browse to that folder. Even better is that I can access it like a menu and get to where I need to go in seconds. All without messing with what I'm currently doing. But hey. That's just me. ~Squeek |

Luckily the only thing I care about, My Music, is sorted into folders for genre and all labelled in one format and generally nazified. |

Re: Post your desktop thread ~5th style~
I clean it up, every few weeks. They accumulate because I use them, more or less. I save a lot of stuff to Desktop, so it's not confusing later. As for finding what you need, it's simple placement retention memory. Basically you know where it is, sort of like typing on keyboard without looking.

I only keep Desktop icons I use on my desktops, but I usually don't use them that often. My start menu has everything I need.
Firefox AIM Itunes PSPX Limewire Paint Pokerstars MSN Word Calculator (this one changes)
