Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
It's a real shame Fei Longer is so off; it sounds like another fun file by hi19hi19. The jacks sound really cool and meaningful. Too bad.
As for Night and Day, I liked it for the most part, but I just felt the file's layering was a little... schizophrenic? sometimes. I could barely hear the 32nds at the beginning, and at the end, there was layering in the 24th stream, but not in the 32nd stream. Maybe this was the judges' doing, but if you're going to make a "dump" file, come on and just layer everything man. So, since everything wasn't layered, I thought those 32nds at the beginning just really didn't need to be there. Barely noticeable even when playing with earphones, and sort of annoying. On the plus side, I thought the meat of the file was really fun. The 16th jump patterns were terrific, and the 24th section nearer to the end was great. There was this part with 48ths and 64ths that I kind of didn't understand, but it's hard to really tell without assist tick and Stepmania and all that. It's probably synced and just hard to tell since the notes come in such odd timing. Fun section though. |

If it's the 32nd broken pattern early on in the song, that's to the melody. It does that instead of 24ths briefly. Or it could be percussion 32nds?

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
At the very beginning of the song, there are 32nds meshed in with the 16th jumps. Like, in between them. And I believe it's stepped to some very light percussion, yes.
I'm not saying the 32nds are wrong... I'm just saying they're not fun. They could have not been there and it would have been better. And, on the slim chance I actually heard the sound while playing, I would have only appreciated the artist's decision to leave them out, not wished he would have put them in. Again, coupled with the fact that the ending wasn't layered and yet this was so precisely stepped, only major gripe. Rest of the file was fun. |

On a side note, I really think the song is a Challenging. Like, not even high Challenging. The jacks are just... not hard. EDIT: Played Snake Riddem. Personally, I thought it was great. Really appreciated the pitch relevancy. Not quite sure what the 8th jumps section was about midway through, but I assume it was just to change it up and avoid repetitiveness. It was fun, I liked it. Won't be playing Felys... and darn, I was thinking of stepping that one, haha. Last edited by Zybanthia; 12-15-2008 at 02:19 PM.. |

I think some of the 64ths in Dead and Direct are a bit off. Like, the should've been 48ths, or 96ths. But, hey, it's fun right?

Nope, they're 64ths.
I feel like I'm following you around telling you 'no'.

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
Fake Jazz was surprisingly fun. The first file by behanjc I ever enjoyed, actually. Patterns were fun, layering was cool. There was just one part of 32nds at the end - it's going along with these 24th triplet kind of things, and then they just turn into 32nds... I played it 3 times, and I swear the 32nds aren't there. It was sort of a flashback to the first 24th stream in Lunatic Princess - the one that just flat out wasn't there. But, oh well. Cool stuff.

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
I suppose that comes as a surprise to... well, all of FFR, but I hate his files. The patterns are often clunky and awkward, and they don't make me resonate with the music - I constantly find I'm asking myself "why did he step that like that...?" Plus, he tends to layer things in a way that's not fun, and step notes that I have trouble hearing even when blowing my ears out with earphones. Not to mention some of his files, like Lunatic Princess, are just poorly stepped, period. Actually, I wonder how a lot of his files even make it to the game.
But, anyway, I wasn't trying to be (and am still not trying to be) negative when I said that - I meant it positively. Just speaking my mind... not afraid to do it at all. Nice job on Fake Jazz, behan. |

He probably just remembers the pack file for it, but doesn't know that it has BPM tricks and stops
