Planet Fitness is a joke within the fitness community. It's mostly for people that are 1. broke or 2. don't know anything about fitness

The stupidity here burns.

Damn, 60 a month is a lot. I'm paying 30+20 for another person on my account.

Planet Fitness is dumb as hell.

I go to a 24-hour gym. $30 a month.

Welcome to NYC, lol. Actually it's 70/month with a 30 initiation fee (from a sale). Just signed up.

The sales rep was very anti-PF, lol

I'm guilty of this regularly. Wouldn't last long there.

I find it just happens naturally, especially near failure when I'm going heavy.

Would be funny as hell to set that bitch off though.

Those PF videos are unbelievable. Getting kicked out for grunting? That's almost like throwing someone out of a comedy club for laughing.

I couldn't be happier with my membership at LA fitness. My membership is only $20 a month (since I signed up during their "New Year's Resolution Promotional thing) and gets me treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, squat racks, dumbbells, a pool, jacuzzi, basically everything you could ever need. Also it's a really nice looking gym.

Figured I needed to stop ignoring the bench press. I've been scared to try it out since I don't have anyone to spot me and I didn't want to get caught in a potentially dangerous situation. Started out at a whopping... 95 pounds (I think the bar is 45 so two 25's on each side). Planning to add 10/20 pounds each week here on out.

Not much to be scared of, other than building a great chest.

If your benches have no safeties, yeah, just keep it light, 10-12 reps, and you'll get the hang of when you're going to fail and you can stop safely before you do. Just take your time with it.

Alternatively, many bench stations have safeties you can set and I suggest you use them. That way if you fail you can just place the bar on the safety and slide out.

Also, yeah if it's an Olympic bar, which is probably is, it's 45 pounds.

If you go to failure on bench and you can't get it up, roll it down your chest and on to your lap, then stand up. #1 reason to never use a smith machine. That thing almost killed me.

I was going to say, although I dont like using it because it's terrible for teaching you proper form for anything really, you could use a smith machine. But then SC had to go and say that, never heard of anyone getting squished by a smith machine.

Also, if you do get stuck, you can lever one side up and knock the weights off, then the other side. (for regular bench)

I think if you aren't benching, squatting, and deadlifting as a beginner, you're seriously hampering fitness goals. So get it done! No excuses, dudes.

from online reading, apparently it's really easy to get injured hardcore when using the smith machines

Hehe, thanks but I'm pretty sure you'll kick my ass. XD

Welp, now that there's an actual gym in the picture, what would you recommend for a new lifting/cardio routine each week?

Stick with what Reach said but have a main lifts day (bench/deads/squats) and then do the other accessories he said.

I have a feeling I am going to look completely silly for the first few months or so, squatting virtually no weight at all
