If you have a spare harddrive lying around, or as much money as you claim to have ($200), I'd say your best bet would be to get an HD-loader. It'll save you money on DVD-R's and the hassle of keeping up with them. It's also pretty uninvasive as far as mods go.

I'm a beginner to BM and I thought this was pretty helpful in learning the basics. I'll import the better stuff from japan later though.

I liked it.

Yeah, moogy is probably right, I'm just paranoid after my retarded friend opened up my ps2 to fix a semi-broken cd drive and ended up breaking every single ribbon cable in the damned ps2.

Maybe I don't want to void my waranty. Because, Sonys stuff never breaks.

(Lukily I have two PS2s and one of them is modded, I only have 2 import games though, This is just a speculation on why someone would not want to modify it you self righteous bastard.)

Uh, you don't need to worry about getting Japanese IIDX games until you can at least clear most of the 7s on 7key. The only reason I say 'most' is because the difficulty ratings for some songs are really ****ed up. I'm assuming they took some of the ratings from the Japanese games and didn't convert them.

Light7, 7key, and 7a difficulty ratings (Japanese IIDX) are on completely different scales. It is not this way for BMUS, but it seems some difficulties have gone wrongly unchanged. For instance, I can clear Snow on Hyper easily (a difficulty of 7), but the ANOTHER chart is much, much harder, and completely out of my reach (a difficulty of only 8). Also, you'll notice as you go through some songs of the same difficulty, some seem to be much harder than others. Attitude, Snow, and Holic have pretty easy charts on hyper (meaning I can clear them), while some others are really, really hard. Finally, the ANOTHER chart for Genom Screams is a 9 and I can almost pass it. Ridiculous.

Even then, the game offers much more difficulty with the 8s, 9s, and 10s. The only reason I say think about getting Japanese games at 7s is because the leaps from difficulties at this point are much too large, and there aren't many songs of any of these difficulties (except for 8s, which I think another has a lot of). Of course, there's always the wanting of more music selection, in which case I don't blame you. I'm just talking about wanting more difficulty here.

This game is really fun XD

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I was much worse the last time I played a Japanese version. Moogy, is what I said at all correct? According to Wikipedia, the rating system I described above changed with Happy Sky to what it is in BMUS, although ANOTHER charts have their own scale.

Before Happy Sky, anothers were not rated at all. They simply used the rating of the 7k. l7 and 7k were on the same scale.

At first, there were just seven stars. The end.

Then 5th style introduced flashing 7s, which were 7s that flashed! And were harder than regular 7s. Most hard songs were flashing 7s for a while, although it was impossible to discern the difficulty of any another other than it was harder than the 7k before playing it.

10th style replaced flashing 7s with 8s.

RED introduced flashing 8s, since it had even harder songs.

Happy Sky revamped the rating system. Everything is on the same scale of 1-12. A Normal 5 is the same as a Hyper 5. A Hyper 10 is the same as an another 10.

BMUS only has 1-10 for unknown reasons, as it has two 12s (V and Colors) and two 11s (NEMESIS and Holic). Everything on BMUS is on the same scale. A 3 on Normal is the same as a 3 on Hyper, etc.

Everything on BMUS except for Colors, V, and Holic is exceedingly easy anyway. Since it's mostly easy, the 1-10 scale works fairly well, since most of the songs are actually below 10 anyway.

I'm finally clearing most 3* songs on 7K Normal except I'm having trouble with the technique of using your pinkiy to scratch. Don't get me wrong, I know how to scratch with my pinky but when its like a pattern of:

S-B1
-B1
-B2
-B2

I have trouble of scratching and getting my fingers back in position to handle the next set of notes. Any help? And why hasn't a sticky for Beatmania help been made yet?

Use your palm for key 1 while scratching. That's what I do.

...No.

It's hard to learn how to do. It took me a very long time to get comfortable at hitting keys with my palm, but now it's much easier for me than moving my hand back and forth.

e-motion is horribly off. The timing is the second worse in the game, after GAMBOL. It's actually harder to score on because e-motion has much more complex rhythms, though.
