Crossing over is such a waste of energy. If you can, double step as much as possible because being consistent at that will make you consistent at just about every song that doesn't have transparent alternations in their patterns (i.e. 96% of the playlist).

Having trouble doing crossovers? Cant seem to make use of BOTH your feet without falling off the pad? Well I have the answer for you. STOP DOING SONGS YOU CANT PASS! Once you are able to do crossovers on easier songs, doing the harder songs will come to you naturally with time and practice. You're goal is this: Exotic Ethnic on heavy. Like a former poster said, this song is loaded with crossovers. It IS possible to play through it without using the same foot twice. For a look at this song, go to:
http://www.ddrfreak.com/stepcharts/s...&Submit=Submit Start on your left foot...and go from there lol. What I used to do to help me was print off these step charts and write which foot I would use on each note, giving me a map of the song to follow. As a side note, I KNOW most of the more advanced players have not been able to figure out Afronova Re-Venge crossovers. You know what part I'm talking about... Afronova Re-Venge Step Chart: http://www.ddrfreak.com/stepcharts/s...&Submit=Submit At box 17 the steps and feet are as follows: Start on your left foot, then go from there You will find yourself sideways on the pad, and I suppose you are not in fact doing crossovers at all, just playing sideways lol. Easiest thing to do is print that page and start on your left foot at the beginning and alternate LRLR until you get to the end. Hope that helps! |

DAMN, I missed this thread's anniversary. ='(
For people quoting and commenting on year-old posts, learn to read timestamps. Odds aren't against them having changed their opinions by now. When I made this thread, I was a bit biased toward crossovers. Crossovers are definitely a necessary skill. However, they shouldn't always be used. For instance, on the 486426486426486 pattern in Afronova discussed on this page, I tend to double step it. The way described above (facing the right arrow) works just fine, but I would probably mess myself up. I'm stupid like that. Spins are a completely different issue. The only reason to do a spin is for looks. This, of course, doesn't pertain to ITG. Songs like Oasis make you spin out of control, and you'll be penalized harshly if you don't. This is the DDR forum, though. Every spin I can think of in DDR could be done more easily by double stepping than by spinning. Wow, I just noticed something. I've failed to mention anywhere in this thread that the ideas I suggest pertain to playing without the bar. Playing with the bar is probably very different. It's not my strong point, so I won't talk about it. This thread is old XD |

If you hold the bar, you will become 10 times better. That's a scientific fact.

Actually, I have nothing against people that use the bar. I just don't. |

i actually like 42682 the best... i dont really consider it a crossover.... but i treat it as a spin for example 4 left 2 right 6 left *facing trick bar or crowd 8 right facing screen again 2 left just going back a step |

and as for crossovers, just change your foot position. for example; [ v, >, <, then continue the pattern.] (Like in the song AM-3P) Just use one foot for one of the arrow cross pattern and use the other foot for the other two arrows. edit: That sounds confusing... But i am correct. I dont explain things very well... But, thats what i AM trying to say. Just try it out and u will get it... Last edited by SpoOkyMagician; 04-29-2006 at 06:14 PM.. |

Oh yeah and changing your foot position is easier. 426242624 combos are easy with left on 4 left and right on 2 depending on which way your going right on 6 So if its a left arrow, left foot on 4 and right foot on 2, and right arrow would be opposite. Re: HOW TO DO CROSSOVERS
To whoever said double-stepping was more energy efficent than crossovers:
WHAT!? Double stepping means you're stepping twice as fast on that foot as you should be, like jacks. This is by no means energy conservant. Also, Crossovers > Double-stepping for PA. |

Re: HOW TO DO CROSSOVERS
Try doing the intro to CSFIL:SM without turning at all.
Awkward, isn't it? |

Re: HOW TO DO CROSSOVERS
What's the point of explaining crossovers using numpad numbers?
Why not use LDUR for left, down, up, and right? Makes sense to me... |

To shutxup123...
Don't be confused. A crossover is keeping one foot anchored on the up or down arrow and the other hitting the left arrow and then the righ arrow (or vice versa). For instance, look at this:
http://www.ddrfreak.com/stepcharts/s...&Submit=Submit Now these crossovers are pretty easy to see. The pattern of LDRDLDRD consists of 3 of them. Left foot on left, right foot on down, left foot on right, right foot on down. Hope that helped. |
