Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
Can you go into detail on what this is or how to set it up?

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
Just click the bottom right option on the play options menu Off is the default scroll rate option Minbpm gives constant scroll rate based on the minimum bpm. Maxbpm gives constant scroll rate based on the maximum bpm. Average gives constant scroll rate based on the average bpm. Constant gives a constant scroll rate and removes all speed changes. However scores will become unranked and all clears will be considered as easy clear regardless of type of gauge used.

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
Recently some players have been passing ★★6 songs. Few ★★7 songs don't look too far away from their reach either. Which is ridiculous.
★★6 ひつぎとふたご [7KEY/PHANTASM] ★★6 人 身 事 故 で 再 停 止

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
I've been playing IIDX for almost 2 years now and I haven't played anything but official files on LR2.
I'm confused with the rating system used on custom bms What's the difference between ★, ★★ and ▼ ? What about the official ratings ? (post Happy Sky) I can clear most 11s and the easiest 12s like A[A], Innocent Walls[H]... ★1 looks harder than that... Anyway... my ps2 is pretty much dead, so I'm probably going to play on LR2 for a while... I was surprised when I saw that this thread was pretty recent. |

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
★1~★24 is the Insane BMS Difficulty scale. Think of it as an extension to the IIDX 12+ difficulties. Roughly speaking, Mei [A] would be a ★8, Mendes [A] a ★6, etc.
At one point the ★ songs stopped updating, so a 2nd Insane BMS Difficulty scale, ▼ was made. However the ★ scale got revived, and now the ▼ is dormant lol ★★ Refers to the Overjoy scale. Its a much harder difficulty; a ★21 is roughly a ★★1, a ★22 a ★★2, etc. |

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
There's also ◆LongNote, ◆◆LongNote Overjoy.
Self explanatory, but it's like playing a different game. ☆Normal is similar to IIDX 1~12s. |

Thanks, this is a lot more clear for me now
I guess [LN_OFF] means no Longnote then. |

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
Started to play with a different keysetup.
Obviously can't play ★difficulties right now, but hopefully I'll be able to bracket better later on since I'm using the thumb now as opposed to using the pinky. (not to mention hitting the scratch key is so much easier now askljasldkjs) Before: Scratch: \ and Space Keys 1~7: ] [ P R E W Q After: Scratch: Q and \ Keys 1~7: ] [ P Space R E W Some clears with new setup ☆3 Slope ☆10 EOS and some before I changed keys...: ▼3 subconsciousness - another+ - Easy Clear (AutoSCR + Hard Gauge) ▼6 G e n g a o z o [hellsize] Easy Clear ★7 ひつぎとふたご ~狂気ノ宴~ Easy Clear (AutoSCR)

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
Instead of doling out $300-400 for a Dao controller, I recommend you start off with the US beatmania set, which comes with the only US version of the game, along with the KOC (Konami official controller). Unlike official vs arcade-style pop'n music controllers or drummania controllers, the official IIDX controller is hardly inferior to the far more expensive, arcade-style DJ Dao controller. The only difference is that the arcade-style controller's turntable is slightly further away from the keys. However, buttons respond and feel the same.
The reason why I suggest the US beatmania package is: - it's far cheaper than buying an arcade-style DJ Dao controller - you actually get a game - the experience of this controller is relatively the same as more expensive ones - the keys are far less prone to being "sticky" than the Japanese KOC (the only visual difference being that the Japanese KOC has 90 degree edges on the turntable side of the controller). This is because the Japanese KOC relies on these rubber plungers that, after wear and tear, may get stuck when you depress the keys. You can modify it to fix this issue though. On the other hand, the US KOC has keys which are spring-loaded instead, which drastically reduces the chance for "sticky" keys. When the US game "beatmania" came out, it was available in stores like EB Games and so on, but I don't think you can find it in those stores anymore. You'll have to probably get it online now. The bundle I'm referring to: http://www.amazon.com/Beatmania-Bund.../dp/B000CC5C8Q Last edited by bmah; 12-1-2012 at 06:30 PM.. |

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
Bmah the only issue with this is...
1. The US beatmania set I feel is not so great of a start off because it comes with the lack of options, song choice, and completely whack grading system. 2. While the USKOC is an amazing controller, if you ever plan to play LR2 or IIDX on the PC via converter for some reason the USKOC does not support 1000 polling rate (1MS response time) but the JKOC does. 3. The Bundle is pretty expensive either way you go. As much as I would disagree though Bmah's choice though is the cheapest NOT THE BEST, but the cheapest. With the USkoc controller you can probably get a converter and then play LR2 for the best experience. It would probably just be best if you get get the controllers by themselves. |

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
This is an issue with almost all converters. The only one that gave me decent results were the super joy box 3 pro and even that gave me a little bit of lag the best thing you can do is to download a program that can increase polling rates on your USB and set them for as high as possible. BUT the issue i stated earlier is the USKOC can only be maxed out at 500 (2MS input)

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
When you start off, I assume you're going to have trouble finding any sort of beatmania games to buy, so by no means beatmania for the US is a bad starting choice. Most people will not have an easy time finding these games at all, so the US beatmania game being subpar is the least of a beginner's worries.
And I don't know anything about plugging the iidx controller into your PC to play BMS, so I'll take your word about that option you mentioned. Could you elaborate? I guess this factor only matters if you're talking about BMS stuff, but popadop didn't go into details about what he plans to use the controller for. And the bundle should be < $100. The link I showed is just far overpriced, probably due to users trying to get a few more bucks for the bundles they sell. It's far from "pretty expensive" when you consider the arcade-style controllers. The bundle is great to get a beginner or novice started, because he'll have a decent controller and a game to boot. Of course though, it's not the best controller. I don't think Dao's are miles better though, other than just a more "authentic feel" (which includes a slightly further turntable and, if you choose, lighted keys). If popadop decides to play iidx games on the PS2, then definitely go for the US KOC and stay away from the J KOC. If he's only going to play on the computer, then he might as well get an arcade-style controller, since he doesn't need to pay additional costs for game purchases, assuming BMS files are entirely downloadable for free. Does anyone know how prone DJ Dao controllers are to sticky keys? Are the keys also spring-loaded? Or a different mechanism? edit: late post seeing what you guys just wrote above, but still worth reading |

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
TO answer both of your questions.
Dao's recently decided to make both USB and PS2 plug in for both of them so the input is around 1MS which is amazing. As for the DAO question Bmah. Dao's are loaded with actual switches (Like the ASC controller for Beatmania) which you choose between cherry's or Omrons. Omrons last longer and are recommended with the Sanwa keys However they NORMALLY require harder force compared to the cherry's. And the Cherry's are loads cheaper. Since I played both arcade and at home I can say this... I believe the arcade i go to uses cherry's so it feels a lot lighter on the presses, and the turntable is more loose (However you can loosen up the Dao turntable all the same). The issue with this is during scratch streaming you can't hit the same direction twice on the arcade, but you must go back and forth. |

77.777...% (7/9) or higher is an AA. And so on, until 22% or higher for an E. Anything below that is an F (I think? never bothered to get 11% or lower, ha ha). It's actually pretty tough to get an AAA for the average player since that requires strong PA. The timing on LR2 for normal/hard/very hard judge is actually pretty strict.

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
Yeah...don't use easy clear unless you're playing a ridiculous BMS chart to the likes of LG (e.g. Dengeki Tube).
I wouldn't even use easy clear for practice as that gives you a false sense of accomplishment. |

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
Also the timing judgement on songs by default is on "easy" There is normally "Easy/normal/hard/very hard" Normal is like IIDX timing

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
Your accuracy/score is irregardless of the gauge you use. Its just different health gauges (like L4, or L7 on Stepmania). Its good practice to use groove gauge though, unless you're playing a chart you can't manage well
