Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Are you not aware of the annual marathon that's been going on since the 5th?

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
This year I think it's somewhere around DC. They do AGDQ along with Summer Games Done Quick marathons every year.

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Some runners do a good job with explaining their run. Others just sit there and play their game awkwardly like they aren't even enjoying it. I think some runners need to understand that they're broadcasting to a much wider audience than normal and need to explain the basic mechanics of their game a little bit more, and most importantly make it entertaining.
Funny enough, the runs that are meant to add entertainment with a race between 2 players have actuallly been some of the worst runs of the marathon IMO. Super meat boy was awful and honestly Mirror'd Edge shouldve just had Ovendonkey... |

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Oh, they made it sub only?
lol A lot of people are going to be pissed tomorrow. Tomorrow I consider the prime day of watching. They got a lot of games I very much want to watch tomorrow. They're silly putting it in sub mode only. I really hate that option, truly. |

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Obvious major hiccup aside, the VVVVVV run was excellent and having the devs on the phone is always a great addition.
This year is really re-affirming my theory that the most enjoyable runs to watch are racing games and platformers, the more heavily glitched the better. We'll have to see if Age of Empires 2 can change that opinion... that game was my childhood and I remember EVERYTHING about the campaigns, so I'm really excited to see this run. EDIT- rofl getting through the seawall, A+ Not quite as crazy as some other pure mechanical skill runs, but definitely entertaining. For a game like AoE2 you have to know a lot more about why the strategy is so cool, whereas for something like F-Zero you can just watch and be like "damn he is quite clearly pressing those buttons very precisely and going very fast"

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
viewercount peaked over 100k during Skyrim. That's pretty sick.
Also about sub only: how it came about is pretty annoying but at least there's quakenet chat which is generally more sophisticated anyway. I can only hope they turn off sub mode during D e e R F o r C e chant because that's always amazing.

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Fzero GX really was incredible. CGN got like 6k followers from doing that run during the marathon lol. Really intense and interesting run.
I looked away for like 2 minutes and missed all of AoE. Sad |

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
This event is about playing games fast. That is the primary objective and any commentary is secondary. Some games take more concentration than others. With that said there is usually someone there to explain what is going on if the runner doesn't want to. IMO I wouldn't change a thing with how people do what they do. They are definitely aware they are playing for such a large audience and clearly it's entertaining because the viewership has been going up every day since the event started.
Finally they made it sub only. People can actually have conversations \o/ Fucking pumped for final 34 hours or so. it's gonna be amazing. Lets predict the viewer peak now. I guess 167,555. |

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Mad hype for Fri and Sat night's line-ups. I cleared my weekend for them ^_^
Viewer peak will be 140,000 during Windwaker HD but I would love to see more during Super Metroid race...I'm a bit iffy with how it'll look with 4-player split-screen and the live-feed altogether...hopefully it won't be hard to see what's going on. Also let's predict results of the SM Any% race 1. Zoast - 44:59 (seriously he can do casual 44's now) 2. Ivan - 45:16 3. Krauser - 45:35 4. Garrison - 46:00 That's if nothing ridiculous happens like dying to Draygon or something...dbx please drop knowledge Last edited by Dynam0; 01-9-2014 at 07:19 PM.. |

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Saturday I would definitely not be surprised to see Cosmo break 150k even.
Can't get into watching Super Metroid, not sure if I'm going to watch the race. Idk what it is about that game I just can't stand watching it, feels like kind of a rigid experience to me but I never played it so what do I know Quote:
Edit: Starcraft II: HotS is really disappointing. Commentary is probably the worst I've seen so far. Cringed so hard I had to turn it off :/ Last edited by Wafles; 01-9-2014 at 07:35 PM.. |

If you don't like the SC2 run (I agree with the sentiments btw, I turned it off too) then you can occupy yourself with some of the runs you missed ^__^
