Oh, now I know what trolling is like I only know that it's a 2 day bannable offense.

    Will do. Sorry about that.

I never said J-ROCK IS TOTALLY INDEPENDENT OF ROCK (caps ftl, geez). J-rock has the genre of "rock" in it, because it is in fact "rock" music.
Exactly. J-rock is just rock. So why even bother differentiating "j-rock" from "rock"? If it weren't for weeaboos and their senseless fascination with the Japanese culture, nobody would refer to rock from Japan as "j-rock". It's just a tag that says, "it's okay, otaku, i'm safe, you can listen to me!"

This is opinion. You don't have the right to shun other peoples' opinions with yours. This is how I feel, and you have no right to make such crude remarks that attempt to completely subject my opinions to a level of apparent idiosyncracy.
Are you lost? This is a forum. On forums, you discuss things. You posted your opinion, I have every right to post why I think your opinion is retarded.

Also, "attempt"? Your profile, signature - everything screams I AM AN ENORMOUS JAPANOPHILE. Your musical taste is obviously an extension of this, fully supporting what I'm arguing here. There's no "attempt" here.

EDIT: vvav, while you do have the right idea about vocals, you're completely clueless as to the definition of trolling

I just listen to whatever sounds good. But I guess I listen to asian music a lot more. If I look in my mp3 player most of the songs are either Japanese or Korean, I rarely download chinese music :< I guess it's because I understand the language and I don't like how the artists try to sound like they have an accent when singing their native language. I only have like 4 american songs, I have a lot more european songs :3.

My favorite song is in Latin. It's less because I prefer the sounds of foreign words and more because I think the voice should be treated more like other instruments, instead of being the focus while the instruments play background music (there are exceptions of course), and understanding and listening to the lyrics makes it stand out a lot more to me than if it sounds like gibberish. I would honestly prefer if vocals were done in gibberish that was designed to take advantage of the way the different words can affect the way vocals sound instead of having the melody and lyrics often being written completely independently. Plus, even if it sounds shallow, something that sounds exotic often sounds better.
Vocaloids often provide the ability to do things like that. Although vocaloids have Japanese accents, you can program them to make any sound. Some artists I know like to assemble scrap lines of vocaloids like a montage, and make music out of it. There are some interesting conglomerations of wordless voice/instrument/techno that I frequently listen to.

I also like songs from languages I don't understand for similar reasons. I've listened to French songs (I don't know French well.) where the female singer's voice sort of melts with the classical guitar instrumental. I love songs like those.

Tokzic: Trolling is a bannable offense for a reason.

And yes, I am a Konata-ist, who adores Japan. However, I have experience in making music. I listen and play many more classical pieces (which are for the most part, European. I've never heard of an oriental piece classified as classical.) on the violin, and many of my songs are not oriental or Japanese in nature. I study music, because it is one of the few things I appreciate in this world, and I try to keep myself unbiased by factors that don't have to do with my ear and my perfect pitch.

J-rock is just a guitarist playing a single chord progression with some cute attractive asian girl singing random **** on a microphone. Nothing I'm interested in at all.

What if they were male vocals? o.o

Yes, I don't think female voices suit rock music in most cases. There's too much pitch contrast between the guitar and the vocal. The only exception I think is Ryo's Love is War. He utilizes the difference between the vocal and the guitar to make the song interesting.

Moe music (which I fail to understand) can stay out of rock.

Also, I wonder if you'd be able to tell the difference between a Japanese rock instrumental and, say, a Finnish rock instrumental? J-ROCK IS TOTALLY INDEPENDENT OF ROCK RIGHT

I bet you don't listen to any non-Asian languages with similar feels.

First of all I can't understand either gender so it really doesn't matter which.
Second I could care less about what they sound like when they project their voice. I want to hear words that bring about a message I can understand not some alien language that sounds catchy when it vibrates my eardrum.

Lastly I don't listen to this music because it is not associated with my language so I can assume that it doesn't relate to me or my culture so why even bother trying to act like something I am not by listening to this?

You can't say that the singer sings random **** if you don't understand the language -_- I find Japanese lyrics to have more meaning than most English ones, because there are more Japanese words that can't be expressed in English than vice versa.

You can't judge a song without listening to it -_- I'm not saying you have to listen to it either.

I think for songs with vocals, there is an importance in the harmony between the content of the lyrics and the tone/mood of the music. Music amplifies the meaning of words, in a complicated form of our casual talk. We emphasize what we say with pitch differences too.

Haha I knew you'd throw that one in but you should've known better. Of course I care what it sounds like it's just that I'm not solely dependent on the sound of the song that it's all I have to go by.

I'm pretty sure you aren't listening to this music for the lyrics because obviously you don't speak the language. There are plenty of catchy and different tunes in the music industry but you seem to prefer this type of music because of it's origin.
