Another generic RTS. Same as all of the others.

Maplestory is just another Korean MMORPG. Moogy is right, let's all hate it before we play it.

True, at least gameplay wise. Only differences are weapons, maps, graphics, and modes of play.

All puzzle games are just like Tetris/Dr. Mario.
There are different kinds of puzzle games. Many are very similar to tetris/Dr. mario.

All RPGs are just like Final Fantasy.
        All turn based ones, yes.

Really, most games of genres are incredibly similar. It's usually the little details that make a game much better than another game of the genre.

Anyway, I don't really like RTS, but actually this looks pretty good. I don't think I've ever seen a true 3D RTS (I wouldn't be surprised if there are many though, since I don't even play them). That said, this game does look far more interesting than any RTS I've seen. Every other one I've seen looks like a clone, but this one looks to be more original.

The game looks pretty cool. But seeing as how I'm not
big on the RTS anymore I can't really see myself geting
            this game.

You know as well as I do that the Nintendo statement is false. Don't even try.

I know Maplestory sucks. I've posted the same thing numerous times.

I know it. You didn't even have to tell me he'd do such a thing.

              Who?

              That hurts =(

              They are.

              They are.

              They are.

Go play Rise of Nations. Tell me if there's a difference. Go play Rise of Legends. Tell me if there's a difference.

              The RTS game core is:

              1) Build units of varying kinds that differ based on your race / nation / species / etc.

              2) Amass army while researching advances in technology.

              3) Attack.

I have never once seen an RTS that doesn't follow this pattern.

              Prove me wrong.

In the meantime, note that I never once said I hated the game or that I wouldn't play it. Nice assumptions you've got thar EB.

                Re: Watch this, RIGHT NOW.

If you can't even see why you're being an idiot based on what I said, then you're an idiot. All RTS games are "all the same" just as much as any genre of games are all just the same. You might as well say all video games are the same. -___- I'm especially mad because you get fussy in the Wii thread because people judge the book by its cover. You said outright that some other game is better, despite having never played the one in that video and frankly knowing almost nothing about it. You're being hypocritical and retarded.

As for my own opinions: unit behavior looks a hell of a lot more realistic in this game. Most RTS games are very...unrealistic to watch. This one looks less like an RTS and more like an overhead view of a very big FPS. The units missed, the sweeped areas with fire, and yeah, they acted more real. The original C&C was like this (but like, way less graphically good) and that missing alone makes for huge changes in gameplay. It makes small organized groups able to defeat a MUCH larger army, because the smaller groups are harder to hit whereas a large mass will take way more damage.

Aside from that, I don't know anything about the gameplay. The whole mech scene at the beginning made it look like it'd be very hero-based, but the actual fighting seemed anything but. It was kinda a confusing ad as far as showing the gameplay is concerned.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

Well, I'll wait until it's out before I decide whether or not to even get it to see if it's the same as all the other RTS games.

I'm just saying, if you want giant mechanical spiders and siege tanks, just go play Legends, cuz it's already in there.

warcraft III managed to vary a bit from the standard RTS theme with the focus on micro as opposed to macro... fairly successfully, as well.

I still wonder why it doesn't seem like there's any resources here.

                        Re: Watch this, RIGHT NOW.

Squeek, that's like saying all electric music is the same, which as any nerd would point out as being utterly wrong. There are sub-genres, ya know. In the strategy gaming world, there are TBS and RTS games. Additionally, there are macro- and micro-management games.

More games are macro-based, though. Why? People enjoy them more because they're easier. Micro-management games are like FPS's: either you have the skill or you don't, except the "skill" is even harder to learn if you don't have it. Macro-based games use general strategies that can be taught, while a good macro-management game will allow for more freedom to make tactics harder to pull out or make it easier to improvise with these tactics.

From the trailer, I'm pretty sure this game will revolve around macro-management. Not only that, but Total Anihilation was a macro-management game, too.

Warcraft 3 (and Starcraft?) is arguably different, but not quite enough.

Then again, it's pretty hard not to abide by that formula. It seems just broad enough to cover everything. Ex:

                            The Sports game core is:

                            1) Choose a team of varying kinds that differ based on your uniform / city / stats / etc.

I'm glad you enjoyed that missing. I found it laughable.

Trained units do not miss a target a hundred feet wide moving toward them at three miles per hour.

I've seen the spider twice. He does have a pretty vicious instant-kill that he likes to use. Pretty freakin' annoying if you ask me.

There's a reason I hate sports games as well, but I just can't seem to figure out what it is even after reading your post Z3.

Maybe I've made similar points about similar things but shucks the reason is just slipping my mind at the moment.

wait, Squeek, didn't you say you can't get much info from this trailer?

Suddenly you seem to know EXACTLY whats going on, care to explain?

Just because a game follows the same patterns doesn't mean it won't be fun.

Many megaman games are pretty similar, but people still play them all.
Many mario kart games are similar, but peolpe play them all.
Almost all shmups are similar, but people still play them all.
Many of the old Zelda games were similar, people still played them all.
Many RPG's are similar, people still play them all.

You can say all of this is true, but then you must own one game of every single genre, and play that over and over.

Why do you thing people play, say, multiple pokemon games. Those are all so similar, they're like the same game.

First of all, this game may have a unique story. One reason I like warcraft games so much is because of the story, same with starcraft. I like multiple Final Fantasy games because of the broad range of stories *prays to god Moogy doesn't see this*. I play multiple shmups because of the subtle differences between all of them.

You could follow a basic pattern for almost every game ever made.

RPG: Level up and kill boss
                                FPS: Shoot and kill
                                RTS: Build and kill
                                SHMUP: Shoot and dodge

Oh shoot better go sell all of my games.

Aren't the general ideas what make it a genre? Isn't it the subtle differences you really can't get from this demo that make it different?

Also, isn't there like a game of the year for each day?
