Re: Why so cruel?
People will feel bad about these things, but still won't change them from eating the products produced by these animals.

Re: Why so cruel?
There is still a point to be made here, even if it is biased. Regardless of whether you are vegetarian or not what is going on within the meat industries is undeniable animal cruelty. I need help understanding how we perceive ourselves versus the way we perceive other creatures. Down where I live a man killed two police officers and he will spend his life in a prison with air condition, watch cable television, and eat three times a day. This is because it is "inhumane" to kill another human. However, it is perfectly fine to raise countless thousands of animals, hold them in pens so small they can't even turn around, and maybe, if they're lucky, get fed once a day. The purpose of there sad existence is to be tortuously slaughtered in unnecessary quantities to feed a populous already suffering from obesity. Out perception is intrinsically flawed by the idea that human kind is above all else and a false sense of security in thinking that we are not susceptible to what we subject other creatures to. Ultimately we are wrong to think that we are above all other creatures, and the way we treat them due to our imagined superiority is quite frankly sickening.

Re: Why so cruel?
People do realize that:
A) Fish are fairly dumb? B) Most videos about the meat industry are over-exaggerated just to scare people? In fact, most animals that are meat products were bred just for that reason - to become food later in life. It's not like people will just take some random chicken, cut its head off and then cook it. People are more sophisticated than that. However, that dog video... that was just terrible 10 seconds in.

Re: Why so cruel?
I don't care how they're killed, I want my flippin cheeseburgers!
(This is merely a bad sarcastic joke. In reality, this is horrible. More humane methods should be used and enforced in my honest opinion.) Last edited by ScarletSky; 05-7-2011 at 11:32 PM.. Reason: I'm not THAT heartless. |

Although it is wrong the way they treat the animals, humans need to eat.

Re: Why so cruel?
this isn't going to change my eating habits lol. It's just unfortunate that humans have chosen those animals for farming.

Re: Why so cruel?
Pretty much this. No matter how bad they treat the animals, it's not going to change most eating habits. I don't think I would be able to pull off being a vegetarian.

Re: Why so cruel?
I find the cruelty unnecessary, but again, not all places treat their animals this way. I wonder if the workers find some sort of sadistic pleasure from doing this sort of thing- not all people treat animals this way, so why should the ones who don't want to make a fuss eat leaves and weeds for the rest of their lives? Hell, the other day, I didn't have the heart to decapitate a dead chicken which came in a bag from the supermarket fridge.
I'm going to eat what I want, regardless of what the animal went through because if "they" were paid moar to treat the animals humanely, the consumer -you and I- may have to pay a little more. I don't have money. Please give me money! This brings poaching to mind. Go out to somewhere, find a rare animal, remove the bits that will fetch money, and leave it to die. i.e. Rhino horns, shark fins, snow leopard skin, etc. tl;dr- Even though I don't really appreciate what the animals go through, I'll still eat meat, and I'm sure many of you will agree with me on this. Oh, and I can't decapitate dead chickens. Last edited by supermousie; 05-8-2011 at 05:00 AM.. |

Re: Why so cruel?
We're carnivores and are naturally inclined to eat meat. It may be cruel but they're destined to die regardless.

I'm certain early man didn't feel compassion for the animals they had to kill in order to survive. They wouldn't be very happy if all their efforts to get to the top of the food chain has gone to waste. We're omnivores. Just sayin' |

Besides, industrialized meat just tastes awful. I never eat at fast food but last night I had a set of ribs that was pretty great. Some people restrain themselves on troll statements, but you, sir, step up and go the extra mile. I salute you.

Predators will attack weaker animals or the younger ones, and they do that because they have to. We kill animals, but not the weak ones (that are probably diseased) or the younger ones (who would want to eat a baby chick?). No matter how bad of a video you see, that really is just an exaggeration to scare people. By the way, people who think killing animals is wrong, and support PETA, read this: http://www.canadafreepress.com/2007/...edom012807.htm
