RE: Q
I'd rather spend some money on a girl than other things. Plus it's not that expensive unless you're a pushover/dumb... No gifts other than special occasions, and those are minimal and very low in cost for at least the first year... I know that some people give jewelry, expensive clothes, etc to their girlfriends. No.. wrong.. lol
There are also plenty of good free dates. Oh, and don't sweat the date much Q (no pun intended). My first few dates with different girls didn't go well. My last first date went amazing. All I say is don't expect much and just let things happen. *shrugs* But hey, feel confident that not one but TWO girls were interested in you a very short time. Some girls are dumb though, like that one for thinking you were hitting on that girl. As it seemed from the pre-planning of the date, she knew you weren't the type to hit on girls, etc. So, she's just a crazy bitch. Don't talk to her anymore if she's going to be like that. Oh, and don't ever beg a girl like someone else said in this thread. It doesn't work like that. It might, but then you'll be stepped on for the whole relationship if it ever happens. |

RE: Re: RE: Q
I've not been on a date or gone to one of those "School Dances" as people so like to call them.
In fact, I only really have one girl I've ever really considered asking, but we're both far too opposed to the dating world to even bother. So, instead, we'll be awesome friends for a long time. I plan to live and die a single man. It comes with the profession, you know? Us computer scientists get no women. ~Squeek |

RE: Re: RE: Q
1.) Picnics- cost time and money. You still pay for the food you buy and pack. You also spend time packing and preparing as well as on the date.
2.)Walking around the mall- See: my date. We added food, DDR, and a movie to kill time. Again, time... 3.)Hanging out- Spending time again. 4.)Movies-Awkwardness of being at one another's houses. Time. 5.)Walks- Energy expent walking. Time. Opprotunity cost also works its way into things. Q |

Squeek, I was on a boat cruising around Manhattan with the rest of the school band. I had no choice, being 3000 miles from home.

I really want to share my life with someone. I'm not talking marriage or anything, just girlfriend for now. I love sharing the little things. It's amazing. Plus not to mention sexual stuff (which I've yet to do save for a few minor things). |

Well yeah, I'm sorry that you had a bad date on that time when her boyfriend beat the crap out of you.
So it's not good. You're right there is no chance to have second date. ---Purple Player--- |

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Q
You said these were free dates. I mentioned the costs. The point being that nothing, absolutely nothing, is free. Air costs ATP to breath. Existance costs a small bit of duration (yay for remembering the old quant phys threads from way back when). Nothing is free.
What you seem to be failing to recognize is that I was using a method of decision making that's been employed for so long it's almost impossible to decide when it began. Humans tend to think using it. Having the ability to do it in depth allows for better and more accurate decisions to be made. That's right, folks, it's cost-benefit analysis time! You said that there were things with no costs and simply listed benefits. I corrected you by listing costs. Of course there are benefits but a lot of the time the costs outweigh them. That goes for nearly every decision you've ever made. You can argue against this method of thinking as much as you want, but the only way you can logically disprove it is to list it's costs and benefits and then determine that the costs outweigh the benefits. Even then, you're using the system in itself. In short, Cost-Benefit Analysis highly recommends itself. Q |

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Q
There is no need to be arguing about costs.
Don't feel bad about the thing happened on your first date. That's right, nothing is free, there is alot of costs. ATP?? What's that? ---Purple Player--- |

Meh. Dates suck, so I never had one. Hanging out is the way to go, especially with mutual friends.

While they may be technically costs, as in money, time, etc., they may or may not be considered costs.
Cost is relative. I'm very well aware of cost-benefit as I'm a poor college student. I make well thought out decisions concerning money (as well as time, since this is my last semester). What I initially meant by the free date was that it won't directly cost you money, like how buying something would. You twisted it and used the "they're ain't no such thing as a free lunch". I then listed activities that, to me, don't cost anything. Like I said, cost is relative. You stated that technically everything has a cost, which is true and fine, yes. But like I said, it's an ignorant way to view the world because, as I'm saying in this post, cost is relative. I don't see the point in viewing "dates" in a TANSTAAFL sense (I put dates in quotes because I'm using that term lightly). In fact, the cost of viewing "dates" that way, in my opinion, is high. |
